It's merely an expansion to "find my phone" which came prior to "protect" if I'm not mistaken. Find my phone allows for tracking/locking/alerting/wiping the device remotely from any iOS device or the web. This new feature is an expansion that won't allow the thug to wipe or disable services thus negating the protection. Which btw is how "Protect" still operates, wipe the phone or swap SIMs and it's defeated. All manufacturers will move to this type of new system but I have no doubt it'll be easily defeated.

Yep; Find My iPhone came out long before the BB10 rollout was botched.

I can get angry and say how rediculous this is, but it's like why bother? Nobody cares if the small players had this for so long. Now that it is a feature on the popular phone they have it's the greatest thing ever and "why didn't anyone else think of it?" -_- I don't care anymore.

Edit: Look at the comments section. Poor guy said he has had this feature on Windows Phone for so long and he gets downvoted like crazy. Lol. Proves my point.

    Find My Phone, April 2010.
    Blackberry Protect, May 2011.

Took RIM a year to catch up. Say again who invented it? Arguably I'd say Apple "inspired" BB Protect.

Find my iPhone was introduced to MobileMe members in June of 2010. Blackberry Protect was released as a beta at the same time. Arguably I would say that it would be hard to determine who actually thought of it first. It most likely was neither. Apple I guess got it to market first. Not that anyone knew. But still, this late in the game and they are wanting other mobile platforms to have these same amazing features when they all already do. This article is still dumb and it shows how dumb people are for not knowing this has been a thing on most devices for a long time now.

This functionality been in BES for many many years. BB Protect is something simple for consumer use.
