Anyone thinking of updating their older iPhone to new iPhone this year?

- I thought about it, but, honestly, for the amount of time I spend on my phone since leaving BB10 (< 1 hr screen time a day and almost no writing messages longer than a sentence)...I am on my..laptop or my desktop 95% of the time these days, and I use my PCs for virtually all calls, email and messaging...The smartphone is basically a pager for notifications for me...it’s no longer part of my work flow for longer messages...06-16-22 09:32 PMLike 0
- I don’t have a problem with Face ID per se. I understand that the image data is encrypted and secured locally on the phone, just like the fingerprint. I just don’t like leaving my camera uncovered on any device due to the potential for abuse by OTHER apps or exploits.
A fingerprint reader on the power button would be fine with me. but I’m hopeful that, by 2028 when I need a new phone, there will be much better options.06-17-22 09:11 AMLike 0 -
I'm pretty sure 2028 will look a lot like today in terms of phones... New iPhone is going to have a Satellite connection, that feature might expand beyond just emergency texting to actual voice or low speed data?
But pretty sure it will still be something you hold in your hand... look back six years, not really that much has changed in the general market of smartphones. Batteries last a little longer, displays are a little bigger and better (less stuff in the way too... ), network connections are faster and stronger, cameras offer wider or longer shots. But a 2016 phone and a 2022 phone look much the same... in general.
But.... never really know, if the economic outlook turns worst than a simple recession? People tend to turn to socialistic systems during tough times... chips in the head might be a good way to make things fair for all.Tsepz_GP likes this.06-17-22 10:19 AMLike 1 - Then he'd have to keep his head in a faraday pouch....

I agree, things won’t have moved on that far by 2028, it’s just not that far away.06-17-22 11:28 AMLike 0 -
- I found the faceID feature for unlock on Apple phones to be quite useful, but the fingerprint feature for unlock on Android phones to be just as useful. I am actually surprised that the below/in screen fingerprint scanner thingys work as well as they do, in comparison to a dedicated separate fingerprint scanner, for example.
On my iPhone luckily when I am wearing the mask it has the Apple Watch + FaceID verification.06-17-22 04:01 PMLike 0 -
- Went ahead and got me a 13 Pro Max 256GB Graphite on Monday after my 11 PM got stolen, I simply could not wait for the 14 Pro Max to land in South Africa, it will probably only get here in November/December, so I did indeed replace my old iPhone now with a current one (as of September 2nd 2022, lol).
One thing about getting a new iPhone is that once your iCloud restore is done you are basically right back to where you left off on your old phone, so when the restore completed on the 13 PM is felt as though I had a bigger 11 PM lol, the same wallpaper I had on the 11 PM was even applied along with my whole setup including iOS 16 Beta.
So far loving the 13 Pro Max, battery is settling in well and is truly impressive given that it’s driving a bright 120Hz screen and 5G, though I have subsequently turned it to 4G as 5G is very spotty.
It’s truly jarring how huge the camera setup is on this phone, though it is welcomed as the results are superb as per usual especially for video.
One thing I do not miss from the 11 Pro Max is the Intel modems, the 13 PM much like the 12 range is using Qualcomm modems and this is instantly felt, it shifts between Wi-Fi routers instantly and catches mobile network instantly where the 11 would take a few moments. Glad Apple dropped Intel, that was the one thing that held back the 11. My iPhone now seems to be on par with my Huawei in the RF department - note a lot of network gear in South Africa is Huawei, and for a long time I noticed how Huawei phones had better RF than my Samsungs and more so than my Apple devices, now it seems there is more parity, happiness!
Ps. Did I mention how ridiculous the battery life is on this thing, with me being on iOS 16 I have the battery indicator turned on and each time I look at it it’s sitting at the same percentage for long periods even after it falls under 90%, very nice.
Still cannot wait to see what the 14 will bring, I’m especially looking forward to the 14Pro/ProMax camera situation, on the chip side I don’t expect much as the A16 will be based on the same 5nm Plus process as the A15 in that 13 range.Laura Knotek likes this.09-02-22 04:46 PMLike 1 - Went ahead and got me a 13 Pro Max 256GB Graphite on Monday after my 11 PM got stolen, I simply could not wait for the 14 Pro Max to land in South Africa, it will probably only get here in November/December, so I did indeed replace my old iPhone now with a current one (as of September 2nd 2022, lol).

- Have to say I am loving this 13 Pro Max, the battery life is insane, even more so than 11 Pro Max.
I have since my last post enabled 5G Auto, turns out the Sub-6 5G in my area is very stable and has far less traffic than 4G, even during the power cuts, 5G on my network (Vodacom which is owned by Vodafone) stays up without a hassle for the 2-3 hours without power.
Anyone here gone to a 14? How is it so far?
I’m loving the refinements Apple keep bringing in their own time with their own approach, the Dynamic Island was a brilliant way to handle the screen cutout situation, a very Applesque approach.
Now here’s hoping the 15 comes with Thunderbolt 3.0 USB-C just like the iPad Pros.Laura Knotek and ddp_in like this.09-17-22 01:46 PMLike 2 - Have to say I am loving this 13 Pro Max, the battery life is insane, even more so than 11 Pro Max.

When my wife first got a 5G phone two years ago, I did some testing and it always got near 800 Mbps with Verizon. When I got my iPhone 13 Pro Max several months ago I tested it out and never saw much more than about 400 Mbps. So I got my wife's to test and hers again, and it is about the same. I think at this point you just have a lot more folks with 5G phones... somewhere there is a "bottle neck" and they have to balance out the traffic. But it is stable and latency is much better... can tell when you move out of a Sub-6 area.12-23-22 01:00 PMLike 0

I know that gestures that they added years ago, really helped with my move from BB10 to iOS. The landscape clock is one of those, why did it take so long type of things.
But my two year old iPhone will get the update, so still no reason to upgrade this year....Tsepz_GP likes this.06-07-23 08:01 AMLike 1 - I'm still using a XR without issues and still getting updates. I'll keep my A13 5G and 5a for another year as well. Having fun spending money on better things for now.06-17-23 05:35 PMLike 0
