Absolutely no antenna problems since day one (release day). You have 30 days to make your own determination, also please RETURN it should you find that you do have in fact a problem for #$% sakes!
It's a problem for a VERY SMALL percentage of users.
Also, if you use a bumper or case, this is likely to mitigate the issue completely, depending on Rogers coverage where you live work and play.
You have 30 days to return it if you're not happy, so why not?
the antenna problem is with all the phones
you only notice the "death grip" in weak cellular areas
strong areas, sees no change in bars
i have NO regrets buying this phone
fast fast fast, great camera, shoots HD video, LOVE the multitasking bar....i can keep going....
buy it and enjoy it
I dont have an antenna/reception problem. had mine two weeks tomorrow-ZERO dropped calls and the reception is actually better than my 9700.
I live in an area with very strong reception so I don't think ill have any problems

I've had issues with mine, The bumper fixxed alot of that. But it still does flux, when new shipments come in apple said they'd be happy to exchange it. FYI.
If you are on Rogers then I am willing to bet the reception issues are almost nonexistent. Rogers uses 900Mhz for their 3G signal and that passes through solid objects like hands much more easily than higher frequency signals.
The lower the frequency, the easier it passes through solid objects.
My husband and I received ours on the 23rd and 24th and never any odd problems as far as signal/antenna, if I wouldn't have heard all the hype I would have never known there was this "problem". We couldn't duplicate the antenna issue and I have not had dropped calls except by my fault while getting used to a touchscreen while talking (had a Curve then Bold before the switch)
It has taken some getting used to after having a berry for so long but I have been pleased...
I've heard SF is terrible in regards to reception, I also heard it takes 3 years to get approval for cell towers..:(.
I got a perfect Bold 9700 when it first came out and was totally freaked out reading the bad reviews it got from people here. I'm not saying they didn't have legitimate gripes, as all electronics have units that are flawed in one way or another. (Not unlike anything else mass produced)
I ordered the i4 anyway. If it has issues or flaws I'll know to exchange it thanks to the information I get from CB. (Luckily I've figured out whose comments to watch for.) Read the good and the bad and decide for yourself.

I always use a case no matter what phone I have so I never noticed the issue or knew about it till the complaint showed up.
Its been an non issue for me.
Bob
Yeah, lucky I live right outside of San Fran, in Marin county. So my issue is manly this when I sit in my room it will go from 5 to 3 to 1 to 2 bars. I'll fully shut off the phone, and restart it then it will jump back up to 5. It's evened out a little more with 4.0.1. But I have gone into the Apple store, and AT&T store and played with demo models, and friends models. Tried the " death grip " that works on my phone w/o the bumper and it doesn't work. I know I get a strong signal in my house because I haven't had major issues yet! But I love my iPhone, and just to be safe I think it's best to exchange it. To me I was madly in love with my 3GS, and it had a mishap. I waited a long time to get a new one cause I forsaw the 4 coming out soon. So thats my two cents, I think it is a bad batch. Not bad considered they sold 3 mil, and only a thousand are so have issues.
im curious, if you order your phone online through ATT and need to send it back to get a replacement or whatever, can you take it to a ATT store? I assume you can but you know what happens when you assume.
I purchased my iPhone 4 on release day.... And I am glad to say I don't have any issues with my antenna problems. I also purchased my bumper on release day! I am very happy with my iPhone 4!!
Rogers has better air service than Telus does, see if you can grab a hold of one when it hits the Rogers store near you and give it a whirl.
Only because I hate Rogers, I have to respond and risk turning this into a carrier discussion thread.
Whose network is better? Depends on:
- Coverage where you are
- what device you have
- network traffic
- etc.
If I could turn the clock back to when I first got my phone with Telus, I would've gone with Bell instead. Oh well.
In Vancovuer & Calgary the difference is noticeable, in mid BC it's hardly different because of weaker fringe areas. When you go in big buildings in the cities, that's when the difference shines, I think each network uses different frequencies and Telus is crap with it, my sister's Bell is consistent.
Anyways, if the OP was with Telus instead of Rogers, I would've said don't bother or wait to see how it pans out.
You can take it to apple or AT&T right now they aren't allowing it if you mean to get a new model, it's a first come first serve basis. But if you are talking about sending it in then either place will do.

so am I. bought 2 iPhone 4G and no problems with Antenna
It's actually just iPhone 4, but congrats. You will find that most complainers about the antenna don't even own an iPhone 4. Only an insignificant amount of real iPhone 4 owners have this antenna problem, and I'd be willing to guess it is just where they live (AT&T).
Doesn't AT&T use 850 MHz? And they're the ones having problems..
AT&T just recently starting deploying 850 MHz (6 months- 1 year ago) so it isn't widespread.
I left my 9700 for the iPhone 4, and I have to say it was a good decision. I waited for Apple to do the right thing (as far as I was concerned) and I decided to keep the phone. I did experience the "death grip" drop in bars, but no proximity sensor problems (which would have caused me to run to the Apple store and return it). I'm not experiencing an unusual number of dropped calls. I don't think I live in one of the worst areas for AT&T.
What do I miss with my 9700? The email/text notifications and the keyboard. I think the 9700 is superior, straight out of the box, and especially with the 3rd party apps I was using. But for EVERYTHING else, the iPhone 4 is better. It's much faster than my 9700. The touch screen is super responsive and I get no lag. I carry one device, instead of a 9700 and an iTouch.
The best advice I can give is know the strengths and weaknesses of both phones. Know what you want a phone to do, and then make a decision. I wouldn't let the antenna issue keep me from trying the phone for 30 days. You may not have any issues.
