Yep. This is why Flash for phone's release has been pushed back since first half o 2009, cause it isn't ready. Apple knows that it crashes the Macs the most because they collect the reports from the machine just like Micro$oft. I'm sure it causes crashes in Windows too, but Micro$oft can't blame Flash for causing the most with their buggy OS's. People are willing to accept their PC/Mac Crashing more than their phone, no matter who makes the phone. Same things with phone networks and data networks, people expect to pick up a phone and get dialtone, people also expect data network outages.
I've never seen Flash crash any device, but I don't disagree Flash is crap and eye pollution.
The problem is so many sites depend on it, including e-commerce sites. Until they get off of it, you really need to have Flash or you are pretty limited in shopping over the net and accessing many websites.
Did you not just see it crash? thats a device last time I checked. Flash Lite you refer too ISNT even close to the same Flash 10 were talking about here.
I cant find the link right this second but a few months ago Engadget had an android phone (Hero I believe) and Flash 10 crashed the browser multiple times too.
I wouldn't want a mobile device that could run flash if it's going to crash all the time. I'd rather not have it and than to just be glad to say I have it but it worthless to use.
Fonage is right is the respect that a lot of sites use flash so you'll never get a 100% desktop experience with a device that doesn't have flash. Then you have to decide do you want the device to have it, but run crappy and drain your battery or be fine without it.
I'm sorry, I don't want to take PC problems on the road with me. I can do without it, if it's not going to work correctly. That's one of the reason I bailed on blackberry. Got tired of the battery pulls and the Storm was the device that made me really leave and I definitely don't want a user experience like that.
Come on HTML5!!!
Okay but to be fair it was on a Beta device and Beta software so I don't think that it is fair to say that flash is not going to work on an Android tablet when the final release is ready. Also the main reason that Apple is so against Flash has nothing to with it causing crashes of devices, it has to do with Apple wanting the iPhone to stay unique and have apps that are exclusive to the iPhone. Adobe does not really care about any of that they just want to see Flash stay a dominate programing tool and continue to make money off it. I respect the postion of both Apple and Adobe, but when Adobe threatens to sue over the issue then they really make themselves look bad.
True but like I said look back at I believe it was a Hero running it. Yes beta of flash,b ut still crashed about 5 times in a row- unacceptable performance. I still think its going to be crashy and if it crashes the device more than once why would Apple want it there? They pride themselves on NOT being Windows Mobile-esque that crashes daily. Its a seemless user experience without big bugs like that or eating the battery/memory.
And I agree I couldnt care less about flash, dont need it on a mobile. Thats what a desktop is for. Lets see people like RIM actually release a good web browser that can render pages before boasting about flash, thats a FAR distant 2nd task.
I also agree its Apple's right to not use flash. Suing like babies over "Apple wont put flash on their phone, wahh wahh" makes them sound greedy and stupid. You cant force your product on someone else just because oyu want to make a buck and its one of the biggest mobile platforms out there.
As Adobe makes a big stink about it and pushes back its release, more and more big sites (youtube, facebook, etc) are putting their video into HTML5 anyways. The longer the b*tch and moan and dont put out a product, the less relevant theyll be by then.
Well if you take Steve Jobs at his word, then he gave Adobe the opportunity to show Apple flash running good on any smartphone that they wanted to bring in, and Adobe couldn't do it. If you go to Apples site and see all the sites that are becoming Flash Free, or as the site puts it, iPad-Ready sites, you'll see a lot of sites are going away from Flash just to support iPad, and by association, the iPhone. People may not like it, but Apple does has a lot of power right now because of the popularity of the iPhone.
This is the one thing I really like about Apple. so many sites are Flash which makes them a PITA to use (I like to right-click on links to open them in another tab for reviewing later), and if Apple can force companies to be more conservative in their use of flash, then it's fine by me.
Opera Software: 'Flash makes little sense for video' | 9 to 5 Mac
Looks like Opera is on board with Apple as well as Microsoft.
Its looking bad for Adobe being the only one pushing hard for Flash (shocker huh).
No, why are you arguing with me? I'm not interested in reading iPhone fanboy sites with agendas. The point is I'm a developer and I'm on my machines and the net 14 hours a day. In all the years I've been afflicted with Flash, as much as I hate it, I have never seen it crash anything. My point is, this is not typical and it proves nothing.
Again, as I said. I hate Flash. I just don't think commens about a beta device running beta software on a site that wants to dismiss Android is anything to worry about.
No, youre the only one here arguing against the evidence presented. If youre so inclined with Flash then youd know theres a HUGE difference between Flash Lite out on some phones like Nokia and WM, and Flash 10 that this is about. 2 different dinosaurs that you want to equate when they arent close. Have you used flash 10 on a smartphone to say its NOT crashy and in conflict with the evidence? No.
And again, not crashing on "machines" aka PC's is not the same as mobiles. This isnt a Mac/PC Flash cashing debate its about mobiles. Ive provided PLENTY of evidence of mobile OS devices with Flash crashing. The Hero running Android OS WASNT beta hardware or OS, and still crashed multiple times. And exactly how different is the Android on the tablet from the phone Android that its SO beta it can simply be negated. Hardware should have no influence over crashes unless its underspeced.
You simply want to negate all this evidence as "fanboy sites with agendas" which doesnt hold muster as anything factual.
You need to go back to grade school and learn how to read. Your whole post is silly, don't try to twist my words around.
Yes it does, the site has an obvious agenda (like all iPhone sites/people) of discrediting anything that iSteve doesn't like. They didn't test a production version of anything. As far as we know, the whole thing was rigged.
There's no evidence of Flash crashing anything except Apple's party :p
Also: On My mac a certain Flash game (caf world on FB) freezes the entire browser when it starts to load, even other windows or tabs. It has crashed the browser once or twice when I tried to run two games at the same time, but otherwise it just get's close. And if you think you can say that i should go PC, with IE8 and FF it freezes the ENTIRE OS.
Yet more personal attacks dont show a dang thing other than you can violate forum rules very easily. And slinging anti-Apple propaganda out there doesnt prove a SINGLE thing either.
You STILL havent provided a stitch of evidence it DOESNT crash ever as you claim; all while claiming to be some Flash guru but dont seem to know the difference between Flash Lite and Flash 10 (which you havent even touched to KNOW without a shadow of a doubt as you say it that its not crashy). I guess you MUST know more than Apple, Microsoft and Opera combined :rolleyes: Apple is NOT the only opposer to Flash and attesting to it being crashy.
Enjoy the ignore list, because childish 15 year old insults dont get you anywhere with people, nor make a valid adult logical argument anywhere in this world
