Agree on Advanced Task Killer, great app.
For passwords, I'm using Keeper. It is supposedly 128-bit encrypted (millitary grade) FWIW. It allows password, and notes. It even allows folders, so you can organize your passwords.

I downloaded task killer, but will it kill essential apps? i.e. if I kill all apps, will I stop getting push GMail, and will it stop polling IMAP and Facebook? Seems like it would end those.....

I don't know about Task Killer, but Advanced Task Killer allows you to deselect what apps to kill. I leave my clock widget open.
