It's in the market, and it's free. Go get it.

Android 2.1+ Two weeks ago, Twitter announced it was developing its own official Android app. Today, that client was released. You can find it now in the Android Market. [link] There's been a bit of gnashing of teeth over whether Twitter is effectively stabbing outside developers in the back. But after just a few minutes with the app, that's certainly not the case yet, for a couple reasons. One is that the app is open source -- Google will release the code. The other is that, so far, the app is pretty simple.
That's not to say the app is bad. Far from it. But it's pretty basic. It currently only handles one account at a time (that's a deal-breaker for me). Tweets are displayed simply but effectively. You won't have a problem reading them. All of the usual features are there -- search, retweet (only native retweets, unfortunately), picture upload, etc. But the bells and whistles that you find on such apps as Seesmic and Twidroid keep them at the top of our must-have Twitter app list for now. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments. [Twitter] Thanks to everyone who sent this in! Screenshots after the break.

It's been nice for me, battery drain may have to do with the refresh rate being set too low.

I enjoy using native applications more than 3rd Party so i'm very happy with this one; the animated background with Trending Topics popping up is interesting. But it still makes me miss Twitter for BB....

The animated background is something new, and the look is crisp and clean...but, as expected, it has aways to go to reach the top. I consider TwiDroid, Seesmic, and Touiteur the pinnacle.

I know that the android devices with sense use peep as a twitter client. Will this replace it? I would hope so, because I wouldn't want to use two different twitter clients on a device.

Once rooted you can just about delete any app on the device. I'm juggling twitter apps right now so I currently have about four on my device. Lol.

I didn't like the Twitter for Android app. It's very pretty but I find Seesmic much more functional. You can't even view full-screen pics in the Twitter for Android...it opens the browser.

That is true. The good part is that they're still working on it, and there are quite a few plans for the app. Hopefully they can get everything done properly.
