This is the conclusion of a research paper on Android Anti-malware software:

    CONCLUSION
We evaluated ten anti-malware products on Android for
their resilience against malware transformations. To facilitate
this, we developed DroidChameleon, a systematic framework
with various transformation techniques. Our findings show
that all the anti-malware products evaluated are susceptible to
common evasion techniques and may succumb to even trivial
transformations not involving code-level changes. Finally, we
explored possible ways in which the current situation may be
improved and next-generation solutions may be developed.

I never had a problem with malware on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but then I didn't download or attempt to access content that could exploit those vulnerabilities.

It is rather disconcerting to learn that the anti-malware software I did have on there was probably useless.

One more reason I'm glad my Gnex is now listed on ebay.

Never have used anti-malware, and probably never will... and I review apps for a living.

I can honestly say that folks on Crackberry are more terrified of Android malware than Android users.

So the moral of your story is that I should no longer use my wife's droid for watching porn?

Of course the fun part is the scanners don't know it's there and neither do the users. It would be hard to know how many Android phones are currently bots and harvesters. It is probably a lot.
