I've never quite understood the connection. If you have a Google Voice phone number set to forward those calls to your cell phone, do you need to have the app running on your cell phone for this to work?

I would imagine that the call forwarding would work regardless, but what about the app keeping track of those calls in a call list, or keeping track of the voicemails, etc.? Can you just open the app manually and all of this information will be there, or does it need to be running in order to record the phone calls/voicemail as they come in?

    Thanks.

EDIT: SORRY, I AM TALKING ABOUT GOOGLE VOICE, NOT GOOGLE TALK!!

Yes, it auto starts during bootup so you should be fine.

Well that's part of why I ask. Can you completely close it and still use all the features of Voice?

If you're asking if it has to be one of the
recent apps, no it does not. I don't see
how you can close the app unless you
    force close it.

Yes, that's what I mean. Just as a means to keep battery consumption down. And I don't even mean just on Android, but even on a BB. I have Voice open all the time, but can I close it and still be able to open it later and see my call list and voicemails?
