in contacts, hit the menu>>accounts. Make sure you have your Background data checked, and Auto-sync checked. In the manage accounts, make sure your gmail account associated with your phone is in there and make sure that is says Syns is ON, under it. If it doesn't, click on it, and Check the Sync Contacts Box.
