Can anyone tell me when you install BBM on a android phone if it is always uses data even when you are not doing anything with it. It's always connected and I've been trying to get some friends to use it but they think it's going to use up all of there data because it's always connected.

It shouldn't consume data, unless sending/receiving. Like anything else, the more active, the more data. Join a chatty group and some channels, then they'll start to see consumption shoot up. A few friends messaging a bit each day, no problem.
