- Greetings,
As the Z10 functionality continues its death march via a thousand cuts - BB Maps now doesn't communicate with the servers, and even google.com has stopped loading***** - the time has arrived to move on and switch. Am strongly considering replacing it with a Pixel. This will be the first non-BB phone I've tried so seeking out the experiences of folks here:
For 5g, in the US we have a choice between the P-5 and the P-4a with 5g. Am leaning towards the 5 based on listed features, but many reviews have complained about the audio quality. Keeping in mind that I'll be switching from a Z10 (with its concomitant audio quality), how serious is the call/audio quality complaint? Which model would you recommend and why? Is the 5 worth the extra 2 hundred? Etc.. Thank you in advance!
@conite
***** Full disclosure: The Z10 is still on OS 10.2.1.2156. Perhaps upgrading to the latest will solve some (but not all) of the functionality issues, but that seems to be just delaying the inevitable, so might as well bite the bullet now and play with upgrading the Z10 later..07-27-21 10:50 PMLike 0 - Greetings,

If your budget doesn't allow, grab the 5a due out shortly instead.07-27-21 10:59 PMLike 0 -
Will also look into the 5a and see if it's worth waiting another month or so..07-27-21 11:09 PMLike 0 -

I know there are some here that like the pure Android aspects of the Google offerings... but that doesn't always translate to they offer the best overall experience. I'd spend some time over on Android Central or better talking with family and friends.
But yeah if you can wait... I'd see what the 5a or better the 6 have to offer.07-28-21 11:36 AMLike 0 - Is there a reason your limiting yourself to the Pixel?

I'd expect the 5a to be barely any different from the 4a.07-28-21 11:49 AMLike 0 -
Most interesting thing to me is the 6 might be using an inhouse chipset... but most certainly a new camera setup. Google got a lot out of the three year old camera package they have been using. Imagine what a 50MP with additional wide and tele cameras will do.
I think the 6 will get Google back on track....07-28-21 01:17 PMLike 0 -
- I’m pretty sure you mean the 5a compared with 4a 5G since the 5a will have one huge advantage over standard 4a itself.07-28-21 05:19 PMLike 0

A phone with bootloader access to try something apart from Android is a good thing, but Sony is too expensive and is apparently geared towards photography specialists.
A basic, unbloated Android seems like a good idea.
Nokia persistently loses in matchup reviews with the Pixel, at least those involving models of interest and comparable price.
Most super-security-conscious phones are a few Android versions behind - not to mention super expensive -, and I want to benefit from the improved gesture functionality said to come with the newer versions - I know it won't be BB10 but hopefully it will be a pleasant enough experience.
Now the idea of going with Google was pure anathema for various reasons - security, monopoly power, etc. OTOH @conite and @Chuck Finley69 have respectively convinced me that
i) there is little to fear from Google with respect to some corporate or NSA backdoor etc.; and
ii) Google probably sells these phones at a loss.
Now I recently heard that Google is planning to leverage the Pixel to serve as cornerstone to its upcoming entrance into the cell-phone carrier market - O the horror! - but I have zero intention of getting into that.
That about sums it up!07-28-21 06:47 PMLike 0 - Well, didn't want a CCP phone for obvious reasons.

Google Fi has been around for a bit... but that just make Google a MVNO like many others (cheaper rates, but 3rd class flyer on the network). Don't know of any "real" plans to try and become their own carrier.07-29-21 09:35 AMLike 0
