I know that Google rankings are very complicated....but Installs is one big factor. So if you just search "instant messenger", BBM is like #135 on the list.

BBM has had way more downloads than most (not the big guys) of the other IM apps - some had fewer than 500. But how many of those have been within the last 90 Days....

Also if you look at the latest reviews... it's apparent the app has some issues that are going to keep new users away.

I don't know why BBM wasn't on the list in the article he linked too. Don't know why BBM is at #135 under Instant Messengers.

Maybe because BBM is still buggy as hell. I always have problems with cross platform sending from BB10 and Android. Messages are sometimes delivered after hour, sometimes not at all.

Second thing that irritates me is that BBM can not rotate, adding new friends is chapter for itself...

To have fully functional app I have to have icon in bar, lol. We live in 21st century where app can run in background without any problems - BBM clearly not.

Not necessarily the end all reason, but probably a consideration with regards to those two competitors.

No doubt.

But it isn't the one-stop option the others are yet. My organization would have used it, but since we have to use Hangouts and Skype for teleconferencing anyway...
