I'm sure most of you have read the post from Bla1ze regarding BlackBerry's decision to license BBM's consumer division to CMW. I have read some mixed feelings about this on that post. How many of you will stop using BBM all together? How many will continue to use BBM as is? How many of you believe BBM will actually benefit from this going forward? Sound off.

Certainly not as many as there used to be. This is partially why I am feeling optimistic about the future of BBM. Hopefully CMW can create better brand recognition for BBM. TCL, in my opinion, has done a great job with BlackBerry's handset division. I feel equally optimistic about BBM.

This isnt a new thing. CMW/Emtek license has existed for over 1.5 years already. They have been doing the consumer work since then. The difference is now the data portion will be stored on their servers in Indonesia or Singapore or wherever they have servers. Before now i think this data was still housed with BB themselves in Canada and the US.

It's not surprising, but I can't help but think it'll cause problems like the BBID switchover in September did.

Meh. BBM is still useful to me and a group of friends that remember the good old days when *everyone* used BBM... like we all used ICQ. Now, I have a core of friends and family that use it. It is VERY handy to ensure that my youngest, who does not have a cell phone, can message me from the family iPad. As well, I can also see when my wife does not read my messages to her... daily...
