I have seen a couple of posts on Crackberry and several on reddit regarding the same issue. Namely here, some users ran into this issue on their DTEK60s.

I have also noticed it on my PRIV and on my Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 (both on Marshmallow).

Something makes the latest version of the Netflix app (and practically all the ones from this year) a true battery hog when not in use and running in the background (standby). You can read more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/netflix/com...usage_android/

This issue does not seem to affect newer devices on Nougat or Oreo (thus, why I hadn't detected it on my KEYᵒⁿᵉ).

Anyway, if anyone comes across this issue (PRIV and DTEK owners on Marshmallow), use an older version of the app. According to the aforementioned thread, 5.11.3 build 25442 seems to work fine.

That thread is like 8 months old, they never fixed it even though they're well into v6.x? All the new builds are applicable for Android 5+. - https://www.apkmirror.com/uploads/?q=netflix

Indeed and most of the other threads are from a few months ago, but it would seem that it wasn't fixed. Unless I'm the only one having this odd issue on my two devices running Marshmallow, which I'd doubt (different makers, skin, security patch, etc.)

All the newer builds are compatible for Android 5+, yet after struggling for days with the newest one from Google Play Store on said devices (even used Geenify to try controlling it), I ended up rolling back to the older one mentioned and the issue is gone.

I only noticed it as I reactivated my PRIV about a month ago (hadn't use it since getting the KEYᵒⁿᵉ last year) and as I got the Lenovo Tablet as a gift a few days ago.

It'd be interesting if others with Marshmallow devices could chime in and see if they notice this issue lately.

Insane battery usage when not in use, even higher than a game I've played for a couple of hours...

17% of battery usage without actually using the app.

There is an ongoing thread in the Nexus forums, latest posts are from a few days ago: https://productforums.google.com/for...ce=forum/nexus

So, as I've previously noted the issue is a current one.

Yes, the issue is still there. I stopped using the Netflix app due to this a few months ago. I've just reinstalled it last week and I can confirm the issue is still there. When it happens, the device feels sluggish. It is obvious Netflix is using the CPU a lot intensively in the background. My workaround is to open the app and then close it.

Probably never get fixed then. The majority are no longer on Marshmallow (21.3%), 49.7% (and only growing) are on Nougat and above, so not exactly a priority for them or perhaps it's something in Marshmallow they can't fix.

I can understand it's no longer a priority, perhaps it would be desirable to restrict newer updates which cause issues on Marshmallow devices.

Netflix has done it already for Jellybean and some Lollipop devices. Although their older versions keep working, they just don't get the newer features. Maybe it's time they do it for Marshmallow.

Anyway, my idea of posting this thread was to give a heads up for any Crackberry users facing this issue (specifically those with a PRIV or DTEK device).

This version of Netflix seems to be running fine with no background battery drain: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netfli...25776-release/
