I'm new to Android (I switched from a Classic to a Key2 a few weeks ago. Being able to download and use mainstream apps is still pretty new to me). For apps that feature rewards cards that can be scanned (like Starbucks or some of the movie theatres) do I need to give the app permission to access the camera in order for the app to work? If I deny the app permission, will the business still be able to scan the card so I can earn points? Thanks to anyone who can help.

The camera is needed to scan gift cards to add money to your account. The cashier can still read your phone to use rewards / get points.

Whether or not an app refuses to launch if a given permission is denied is up to that app. There is only one way to find out. You can always change the permission later on if you want to.

Thanks @PantherBlitz for the explanation. This is exactly what I needed to know and more.
