There is no shortage of people who don't understand how the Hub works on Android.

It's not their fault, BlackBerry makes little effort to explain it, and since all Android devices have to come preloaded with Gmail, it makes the situation even more confusing.

Many people have double notifications, or don't understand why X app doesn't work, or Y app works weird.

The Hub is a glorified Email client.

    What does this mean?

The hub is first and foremost, an email client. It might as well have been called BlackBerry Email.

It can be used to replace Gmail, and other default mail clients on your device. (If you have a Samsung or an LG or anything else, they usually have their own email app as well.)

So you can go into system settings and disable those other apps, set up your accounts through the hub, and it will handle your email.

If you're getting double notifications for emails, it's because Gmail is running, as well as the hub. You have two email clients running. If you have poor battery life, that might be part of the reason.

In addition to being an email client, it is a notification aggregator.

    Meaning:

It will read notifications on your device, and allow you to interact with them.

It does NOT do text messaging like on BB10. It is NOT a text messaging client.

Messages is the default app from Google (other devices may have others installed).

That is your texting app. The hub simply reads messages that go in and out, and allows you to respond directly.

This behaviour is the same as with other apps, WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

It only reads those notifications, and in some cases, allow you to interact.

The hub itself only does notifications for email. You can change your LED colors and notification tones for email only using the Hub.

Everything else is done on an app-by-app basis.

Want to change some particular app's ringtone and LED color? Check the app itself, if it let's you, great. If it doesn't, then too bad, so sad, tell the developer to add the ability.

BlackBerry and the hub have nothing to do with what other devs do with their apps.

    So to summarize:

The Hub on Android is an email client. You can use it for all your email, you don't need another email app.

However, it is not a client for anything else. It just reads the notifications and let's you interact with them. That's all.
