Just a public advisory. The latest version of Chrome from the Google Play Store no longer works on BlackBerry 10. I can't test all OS versions obviously, but based on the latest PassportSQW100-1/10.3.1.2267 that I have, the latest update is a no go. It crashes at launch. Installing an older APK solves the issue.

    Thanks all!

It's because it's for Lollipop. At work now, maybe someone can post before I can.

Actually that's not the reason. The APK works just fine on my LG G2, and it is on 4.4.2. Lollipop support was added several versions back, and the APK was fine. Most likely some call has been added to Google Play Services that kills the app on BlackBerry 10.

I can post my APK later today probably, but I'm not sure if the version is just before the latest release which breaks compatibility. That's what I get for not using Snap and switching to Google Play Store :|

This is also why the newest release of Snap absolutely must bring back APK archiving. This is critical for BlackBerry 10.

Thanks but this isn't a complaints and alternatives thread. Just a notification.

Ding Ding We have a Winner.

From now on, Chrome for Android builds will be dependent on the Google Play Services library.

This move will allow the Chrome team to move certain currently private code (including support of remote video playback such as Cast) into the public repository.

Cynical eyes might see this as a shot across the bow to Cyanogen Mod trying to build a Google Services free Android platform.

Bye bye Chrome. It was fun while it lasted. Google keeps marching forward towards ultimate control over all things Android. AOSP is looking more depressing by the day.

Mmm... I wonder if this has some relation as to why Facebook & messenger don't work, I'll try going down a version or G Services to see if it helps
