NOKIA LUMIA 800, thoughts?!
So I've been looking into leaving bb and jumping into androids, but I came across nokia and there windows OS and thought it was pretty sweet and simple!
There's no front camera and its only 720p hd recording, but it has a 8mp camera and its a 1.4ghz phone. I think its single core though. But it just amazed me by how it looked and ran with windows 7. On top of that you go ms office and nokia drive (which is turn by turn navigation) for free!
I think ill be picking this one up and re live my old junior high days when my first cell phone was a nokia

What do you guys think?

It's a sexy looking phone for sure. If I ever leave BlackBerry I will be getting one of the nokia windows devices. Nokia makes great hardware and windows has a great OS. Now if they make a QWERTY keyboard that rivals the Bold 9900then it's a no brainer.

It looks like a good phone but the design could've been way better. The power button is in a bad spot IMO and the square corners just completely kill the aesthetics.

I like it. It brings back the aesthetics of the 2nd gen iPod nano, of which I was quite fond of.

the only nokia i would ever own was one of their series 40 phones. once they switched to Symbian, they started seeming "meh". even though the specs of their Series 40 phones are laughable by todays standards, they still are some of the best phones ive EVER owned. their newer stuff is all a turnoff to me.

I'm still not sold on wp7 at all. The device itself looks great, I'd go with a n9 over it though. Such a shame what nokia did to meego.
Having no front facing camera is just odd. Nokias been putting them on their phones forever now. MS owns skype and it will be integrated into the os at some point. It just seems very odd.

Hey guys if ya look at some of my other posts I have been playing around with a WP7.5 phone lately. The Samsung Foucus is a great phone as well the Mango update brought Windows Phone really up to par....sure its still lacking in some areas but it is an awesome alternative to BB. I dont plan on switching at all...but if they time would ever arise that a BB wasn't an option I would definitely go Windows Phone over iOS or Android. Very smooth operating system...lots of cool features...and the real office software right on the phone. Along with skydrive the cloud based

The hardware on the Lumia is top notch. Nokia definitely scored a homerun with its unibody composite plastic construction. I'm not crazy about the 3.7 inch display but it looks like a winner IMO.

I need to have it in my hand to make a decision. It looks good on video. The platform looks very interesting. I would live to have one for a couple of days just to compare it to my iPhone.

I'm definitely picking one up! I'm blown away with how good the N9 is but the lack of apps is killing it.

Rumor is Nokia has some LTE goodness coming Q1/Q2 2012. This 800 may not be the flagship afterall.

I love the formfactor except it doesnt have a keyboard. Yes nokia has been putting front facing cameras on for a while but they turned these WP7 phones around in only a few months. That being said, I really love the N9. it is a super hard decision if between the N9 and lumia 800.

I am a big Nokia fan from years past and would love to see them do well with WP devices. There hardware is awesome and solid. A great KB device ala, E71 would be sweet, bigger screen tho.
This is just their first offering, I would expect their designs to improve quickly. Nokia has alot riding on this Microsoft venture, I believe they will pull it off, but maybe be better with a later device, and a KB please!
Symbian was awesome, but they didn't follow thru with it. It seemed to get to a point and stop progressing. I really liked that platform myself.
I don't think the Lumina is a flagship at all. It's just a start with huge potential.
I have to wait for Verizon to get something, but remember the days when I had a GSM provider and that made so many devices available. I kind of miss that albeit was kind of expensive.
A better variety of Nokia WP devices is on the way. Patience is key. Good things come to those who wait.
2012 is going to be a great year for mobile.

Well..
I bought the Lumia 800.
Very pleased with it.
I don't think ANY of the phones can match the fluidness of the OS. MS and Nokia have done a proper job on this.
Took a bit of getting used to coming from the BOLD9000 and Torch (Still use my torch on another number btw).
The xbox integration is excellent, and the nokia drive, the GPS is superb, It locked on in seconds (inside) and found my location.
What a great phone.
Loving it! -

I so want to get the Lumina 800! Also, wasn't there a rumour about a Nokia with a keyboard, similar to the E7?

I'll be reading for another device upgrade by the end of next summer and I'm hoping the Lumia 900 is out by then. Leaked photos look pretty awesome:

The Nokia Lumia 900 looks like the phone that will bring a lot of people back to Nokia.

The 800 is a great phone. I look forward to getting my hands on the 900.
The great thing for developers is that if this phone takes off, the developer tools are available right now, complete, and really fantastic. Easily competitive and in some ways even superior to what Google and Apple give us.
I don't know that everyone is rushing out to make apps just yet (some are), but if they put some marketing muscle behind this, they could be a major force by the summer.Last edited by app_Developer; 01-23-2012 at 10:36 PM.

I love it! Setup didn't take long and wasn't complicated at all. The phone feels solid and the quality is unmistakable. I have to say that after taking a detour to Android, I'm finally where I am most comfortable.
One thing that I don't like and it also was present in the Nokia N9. the font is too small and unadjustable. One of the great things about Blackberry phones is that you can adjust the font but on the Nokia, you just can't.
The whole interface is polished. It feels very stable especially after using my Blackberry. I usually jumo around from iPhone to Nexus every couple of weeks but since I got this one, I've been using it without missing the other two.
One personal wish is that Windows should support Arabic. Right now it doesn't and to get any inroads in the market here, support is needed just like the other platforms.
