- In view of the attached articale do we need to have virus protection on phone, playbook.
Windows Phone SMS bug leaves handsets open to attack - Yahoo!
This is about a bug that can be exploted through the sms message system the artical only mentions windows phone 7, iOS and andriod so far
"The chaps at winrumors had been contacted by one of their readers, Khaled Salamed, who discovered the bug and in tests discovered that the attack doesn't appear to be targeting specific devices. It also emerged that the bug is triggered if Facebook Windows Live Messenger is used to send a chat message.
SMS attacks are not just a problem for users of Windows Phone 7 as both iOS and Android have been on the receiving end of similar SMS-based attacks before. This attack, however, does not seem to pose a security risk as it looks to be concentrated around the way the phone handles messages and does not appear to affect other areas of your device."12-13-11 06:33 AMLike 0 - I thought it was a general question that was aimed at keeping my equipment safe useing back up material which made me think12-13-11 12:12 PMLike 0

One should use a PW to access the device and also to download any apps. Also, don't download any apps other than from App World. They are screened by RIM.
Previous articles have indicated that an eight character PW with UC/LC and numbers is near impossible to penetrate. That along with some good judgement regarding downloads should keep us safe.
The security levels for mobile phones as I see it is:
1. BlackBerry - The gold standard
2. iPhone - Pretty good. Has been hacked before but patched up.
3. Android - Just wide open to attacks. No screen for apps.
4. Windows - Same as Android.
We live in a world where people do this stuff quite easily and sometimes even for fun.
Here is an area where all smart phone users can stand together against cyber crime.daveycrocket likes this.12-13-11 12:32 PMLike 1 - One of the reasons I love my BlackBerry phone is that it is the most secure out there. There is always different articles about some sort of "malware" or such type attacks on android.
There is one article on some kind of "bug" on Windows (one that I haven't seen on my phone) and you are labeling it "same as android"?
WP7 security level is way better than android, and just as good if not better than iOS. I admit that BB security is the best, but right now that's all they really got going for them.12-14-11 10:48 PMLike 0 - You're right. I think no one would need anti-virus on any smartphone if they did their research and didn't install any app on their phone. It's the same as with a computer. You won't get viruses if you stay off the "porn" and other such sites.12-14-11 10:54 PMLike 0
