- Played with one of the phones a little bit in the store.. The general UI looks fairly nice (nothing terribly shattering though). But imo the layout is very un-optimal for displaying and navigating to data. It's kinda like a haphazard tile layout in which a lot of stuff looks very similar, which I don't really like.
The fancy screen transitions are kind of unecessary... The wipe-in wipe-out for Email alone takes like 2 full seconds. I get the impression they really went for fancy over functionality (which imo it's not exactly that fancy).12-13-10 02:19 PMLike 0 - i have a HTC HD7 switched from a BB 9700 ... and i do not regret it one bit. The push notification for mail is instant other than a BB keyboard and bbm really there is no reason to stay on a BB. The commercials are true you get in and out really quick. Mail, music, calls, calender, etc... is one quick swipe and click. I've tested this with my 9700 how fast i can get to an app and wp7 won everytime. Android omg, multiple swipes then searching for the app you want. Microsoft tile system is right on point. for everyone who says they don't get it, try it out for a week ... you honestly can't expect to like something new the first 10mins of usage being that the wp7 OS has a bit of a learning curve.12-26-10 10:10 PMLike 0

- The UI is fantastic. It is very easy and clean. It see it taking market share from BB and Android (iOS will have it's loyal fanboys).

- I think most of the hate people have for new OS's is that spending five minutes with a phone in a store setting is not enough time to get accustomed to it. I certainly took a leap of faith buying my Venue Pro, and sure it took a good bit to get used to the way it worked, but once I did, it's really good. And for all the "it does have multitasking" haters, I find I rarely need it given, if I receive a text, I open up the app and two clicks of the back button later, I'm back where I was before I received it.01-03-11 01:46 PMLike 0

And if multitasking wasn't useful or wanted, I kind of doubt IOS would keep adding background notifications and updates with each new OS to a system that doesn't promote full multitasking (likely because they are scared of users dropping the phone performance as a result).01-11-11 04:08 PMLike 0 - Well I have had mine for a few days now a really like it. It has a bit of a learning curve, but no more than my first BB.
Yes there are a few things I miss from the BB, but nothing I think I wont miss in time. But this is the probably the same way I felt about leaving my Windows MDA behind when I switch to a BB 8800. ( I upgraded from a 9700)
The 9700 was a very nice device and had alot of great features but the HD7 is Super sweet as well.01-30-11 11:05 AMLike 0 - sleepngbearRetired ModeratorWP7's market share sucks so its doomed just get used to it.
Sorry, just trying the same argument the RIM haters are using to substantiate beliefs that its demise is imminent. Using their same (non)grammar, too.
Me, I've got such a sour taste iin my mouth from the worst phone I ever owned that happened to be running WinMo 6. Now I just can't bring myself to give any device running Windows a fair shake.
I really haven't heard anything bad about it (exceopt for the canned list of issues nefariously posted earlier in this very thread). In a way, I hope WP7 succeeds and actually brings some innovation to the table. One more player in the game will only serve to keep the others even more on their toes.
But for the folks who are using a WP7 device and like it, what do you find most appealing about it?

The UI just works for me, very smooth, very quick and easy to navigate. I don't dig thru menus and setting anymore as there really is not much to change. This is a big minus for some but I like spending less time petting my phone. This kinda brings me to the biggest thing for me as a former long time Blackberry user...The blinking light.
Truth is, well I just don't miss it. I did for a while then it just felt great not to be picking up my phone every couple of minutes because it wanted me too. I field messages in batches rather than on demand and can always hit the sync button for an up to date inbox, something I always wanted as a BIS user. The adverts MS runs are dumb but I do see the point after using WP7 for a while and really is the thing I do like most about it, in and out.
Its not good for a heavy email user and I'm not that anymore like I used to be, my position is internal now so the multimedia aspects of WP7 are a real boon Vs Blackberry.
I feel your pain on getting Burned, mine was the Storm1, one of 6 BB's owned but this is no WinMo for sure. Phones are very personal now, just make the most of that trial period to see if it fits you. I like it, but hope to return to BB if they can make the transitions I'm looking for these days.
As bullet points the pluses rank as Zune pass and interface, decent hardware (focus for me), quality of UI inc live tiles, integration of UI into apps to make a seamless feel of the experience, Netflix and Slingplayer streaming on a nice display, custom home screen (more so than any platform, well with content not appearance), real games (nice after not being an option on BB), social integration handling thou this would be a minus for heavy social users I would think and a better then expected app store.02-02-11 08:09 PMLike 0 - So far, it just works. The tile system is quick and clean. I can pin ones I use alot on the main screen or on screen 2 they are alphabetical in a single line simple and sweet.
The cut and paste will be nice but so far haven't missed it. The oly thing I do miss over my BB and my other windows phone and android is the ring tone customization.
I work in a shop and everybody has the same "old phone" ring as its loud on 4 different types of phones so when one goes off 3 or 4 people scramble. LOL02-03-11 08:58 PMLike 0 - I think WP7 has a lot of potential. I agree with a lot of people in that it doesn't seem to be as business focused as the previous platform was. But given time I think it will be. Its really no different than when the first iphone came to the market; it was missing all kinds of thing, and is still not a "complete" OS. Given time, I think WP7 will be a great OS and not just a very good one that it is now.03-30-11 08:29 PMLike 0

it's really about what you want from a device. the xbox live integration is nice.04-07-11 01:32 PMLike 0 - Agreed, Im currently using my Samsung Focus as well. Sold my iphone 4 in fact because i liked it so much. In regards to be being better then a torch ... IMO HANDS DOWN BETTER. The torch is a stepping stone to better devices , the focus IMO runs like butter out of the box.04-13-11 06:08 PMLike 0
- I'll try not to fall into the comparison game that is so rampant when you talk about such things.
But I will say this, the Android is hand's down the best OS in the market right now. For many reasons, but then again, it is so open that is fractioning quite dangerously with very little standardization and then you have the developer's nightmare that Windows is... which is supporting weird, out of spec and not standard hardwares.
I personally own and have active with 3 different phone numbers a:
HTC EVO 4G
HD7
Curve 8350i
All have very very different uses.
The HD7 is my "Family" phone.
The EVO is my bread and butter, I use it for everything. Just yesterday I used it as a flashlight sitting on the seat of my motorcycle to cut a branch of a tree that was scratching my car when I drove in every day.
The Blackberry I got it because I use NEXTEL for my business needs and that was the coolest NEXTEL device they had. It was also my alarm clock until it nuked yesterday when I tried to upgrade the OS.
Like I said, the EVO is hands down my favorite, I used to hate it because it would go through a battery in less than 4 hours, but I got the SEIDO extended battery with the rugged case and yes, it turned it into a "Monster phone" but now I never worry about battery life. It last what I need with heavy use.
I used to have a very high opinion of the Blackberry, I thought that it is a purpose driven device, not like the Android that wants to be everything for you... your wife, your mistress, your boss and your slave.
The Blackberry is what it is, a Phone with features that run well, and that happens to be an excellent NEXTEL device, easy to use. Very simple indeed, kind of like an old just calls cellphone but on steroids.
Now I think the Blackberry is the crappiest piece of crap on earth. I mean, why should I be reading forums about how to un nuke a device that costs 400 dollars when all I did was trying to upgrade an OFFICIAL OS release.
Ludicrous Blackberry... RIM! Once I am done with my NEXTEL contract I will get a Motorola and never see you again, we are done!
OK... But now to the WP7.
I simply love it. It is the most beautiful OS I have ever seen on a mobile device or a full size device. It is elegant, it is simple. No need to fiddle with bolts and nuts like on the Android. The Android has way too many settings for the casual user. I am a software engineer so that is OK with me, but how about Ms. Daisy?
Technology should be simple and out of the way. Well, WP7 does it nicely.
So it does not have a front facing camera... well boo hoo, big deal. My EVO has one and I have used it a handful of occasions.
So it does not do multitasking, I say GREAT! Saves power, in fact, I never worry about the battery on the WP7.
And ZUNE... wow... ZUNE, I have used ZUNE since it first came out. It is bar non the best bang for the buck. 14 bucks and you get as much high quality music as you could ever listen.
And the reason people need huge hard drives on their cellphones is because they collect MP3s because you need that much variety. But what if you could simply try new stuff all the time without paying 1 buck a song? I mean, having a huge music Cloud like ZUNE just makes sense.
I can listen to my WP7 all day long, on my car, at the GYM and at my office and I still have about 2 GB of free space.
Why would I need to swap an SD card? Who wants to carry a micro SD card on anyway? What are you all nuts? It is just way too small!
The screen is glorious, it even has a kickstand built into it.
Another feature I love is that it does play NETFLIX, another great bang for the buck.
The only complain I have is the Camera, it does suck. It is 5 mega pixels but the shutter is a real button and the shutter is not quick enough so when you press the button, it is hard for your pictures not to come blurred from motion.
If you want a DO IT ALL phone, of course... Android, but get a meaty battery.
If you want a BEAUTIFUL phone HD7 for sure, absolutely, no doubt.
If you want to curse the Canadians... get a Blackberry but do not say I didn't warn you.04-14-11 11:38 AMLike 0 - Social Media is a big deal nowadays but from what I've read, WM7 goes over board with it and as such would probably annoy me more than anything! Integration into contacts, photos, music, everything. If i want to be spammed, I'd like it to be in a certain areas where i can bring it up not in every facet of my phone. Spamming my photo folder with pictures from facebook along with the pictures i've taken isn't something i really care for.
windows phone 7 i think will appeal to those who are much more savvy with integration with social content but im not sure how well it will work with two more twitter accounts, facebook etc.
As for the social network aspect, it doesnt integrate into everything. It does give you options on what you want in your contacts and, depending how many accounts you link, will keep all the contact cards of one person grouped together so its not spammed.
The photo folder doesnt get spaamed at all with photos. It runs the same way the zune does. You have to sync the pictures manually with the Zune program and you get to pick what pictures goes on it. Any pictures you take with the phone will have a chance to sync with the computer as well. WP7 also supports wireless sync as well like the Zune.
For multiple accounts, just on the phone as options for Windows Live, Outlook, Yahoo, Google, other POP and IMAP accounts, and Facebook. For Twitter, you would have to download the app for it, and you can also download the facebook app if you don't want ot use the built in one.05-03-11 03:18 PMLike 0 - I'm using an HTC Surround now and it is amazing. The keyboard is much better than the iPhone 4 I have, but does not compare to the physical keys of the bold series. The only thing I truly hate is the slide out speaker but it does add some weight to the device, which is good for me because I hate flimsy phones.05-07-11 03:50 PMLike 0
- hey guys i have a question about my BF using a Samsung Focus on WP7. he logs in on the windows live messenger app or the yahoo messenger app but it does not keep him logged in throughout the day. the apps log him out. do you have the same experience? is there a messenger app that does not log out?06-14-11 10:25 PMLike 0
