I've only been on one cruise and I left my phone completely off the entire time on ship and at ports of call. I just didn't want to risk the charges. Most cruises have wifi but they usually want a ton of $ for that so I didn't even bother with that either. I figured I would enjoy my cruise and worry about home and texts and emails when I got back. Depending on the ship and where you are, your Sprint phone probably won't even work since its CDMA (unless you have a world phone with a sim card). One thing to look into (with the cruise line) I remember them mentioning something along the lines of having access to cell service on the ship through towers on the ship itself (not on land at ports). I think they may have had something like an Airave to allow CDMA to work. If I remember correctly, it also was expensive and I don't know what Sprint would have to say (or charge) about that. Another option you might want to ask Sprint about is if you have a laptop on the cruise and can access the Sprint website, you can log in to your account and send and receive free text messages that way as well (like an IM). But if you're in International waters, I'm not sure you will be able to access the Sprint website since some websites only work in the US, but I could be wrong... Good luck... I'm jealous and looking forward to my next cruise (hopefully soon!)
