What I have to do every time is go to manage connections, set up wifi network, wifi options, choose my wifi network, edit, and then make sure SSID broadcast is checked and then exit out. After doing this for some reason in about a minute I get a full connection.

All I can think of is, make sure your router is allowing more connections to made to it. Make sure you increase whatever the IP address limit is, add it by 1 for your phone to be able to access it.

My WiFi icon is turning white which, I think, is a good thing. When it turns white like that, does this mean my browser is using the WiFi signal? If I want to make SURE I'm using WiFi instead of 3G, is the best way to handle that to disable my Verizon Network in "Manage Network settings".

The only reason I don't want to do that is because I won't be able to receive phone calls while I'm browsing if I do that.

The main thing is I want to make sure I'm using WiFi instead of 3G since I am assuming the WiFi is faster...

your browser will use whichever is the strongest when connected. white means you can use wifi for email, bbm and broswer (you can check this by turning your network connection off) but you need your network connection for text and phone service.

Unless you are with Vodafone UK. They bundle a modified browser called "my web" that can't be disabled and only uses wap and not wifi. For some weird reason it keeps opening even though defaults are set to hotspot browser.
Stupid Vodafone.

So I spent the last several hours trying to read through every string and post there is regarding the 9550 and WiFi. I didn't have the magical "WiFi turned white" like many of the other users last week. Mine hasn't been working the entire time I've owned the phone (10 days now). I tried everything else suggested in the forums including removing the battery (soft reset), registering, re-downloading the service books, turning off mobile network, removing the battery (ten more times), etc etc. Trust me, I tried everything. So then I called Verizon. The first guy didn't have a clue about anything and literally got out the users manual to help. Then I called back, and the second guy tried harder but still couldn't figure it out. He decided to transfer me to Blackberry tech support. So while sitting on hold waiting to hear from the BlackBerry tech guy....

....I turned the WEP off on my Netgear Router (as someone mentioned). With an open SSID the WiFi on the 9550 "turned white" and was popping! Coolest thing ever. So I did some tests. I turned the WEP back on the router and retyped the 26-digit password into the BlackBerry. The WiFi stopped working. Then I tried WPA2 on the Netgear and presto, the 9550 "turned white" again after I typed in the new password.

So I think the bottom line is WEP probably doesn't work with the Storm 2. I know it somehow works for some of you, but at least for me with a Netgear Router and Comcast ISP, WEP and Storm 2 are out. I've switched to WPA2, and the WiFi is performing beautifully (just checked again as I'm typing this).

Sorry for the long (first post ever on Crackberry), but I'm hoping this will help a few of the people still stranded without WiFi on the Storm 2.

Ok I am having the same problem. I have read every post on here but dont see an asnwer. My situation is abit unique.

1. I am overseas in an area with voice service only.
2. I unlocked my 9550.
3. The grey Icon / not connecting to BIS problem occured somtime after the unlock. Not sure if it is related.
4. I have the BB shipped to me from the US. The global phone service was set up in the US. However, I set the WIFI and email up on the email while overseas.
5. Its a verizon phone with verizon service.

I have looked at the Service Books and the all seem to be present.

I can't access the feature to resend books in email setup because I have no connection.

I dont have the abilty to do any updates over the cell phone network since I dont have date service.

I am on the $29 plan

The email worked great with the WIFI on my base for the first 24 hours. Now I cant connect. However, I can connect to the internet via browser.

ANY IDEAS? It will be 30 days before I return to the US.

UPDATE on the above post. I tried to swith the service plan from 29 to 45 package. Turns out I had the 64 Global Data plan. I had done alot of service swithing between phones on my plan so that was not suppose to be the package. Anway, the vw site would not let me change the plan. So the plan change fix will not work for me either.

I am doing a security sweep now.

Tried to go to the BIS site and access my service but I get the cant access on HTML error.

Well if it happened today it's because RIM had another BIS service outage.
