So I spent the last several hours trying to read through every string and post there is regarding the 9550 and WiFi. I didn't have the magical "WiFi turned white" like many of the other users last week. Mine hasn't been working the entire time I've owned the phone (10 days now). I tried everything else suggested in the forums including removing the battery (soft reset), registering, re-downloading the service books, turning off mobile network, removing the battery (ten more times), etc etc. Trust me, I tried everything. So then I called Verizon. The first guy didn't have a clue about anything and literally got out the users manual to help. Then I called back, and the second guy tried harder but still couldn't figure it out. He decided to transfer me to Blackberry tech support. So while sitting on hold waiting to hear from the BlackBerry tech guy....
....I turned the WEP off on my Netgear Router (as someone mentioned). With an open SSID the WiFi on the 9550 "turned white" and was popping! Coolest thing ever. So I did some tests. I turned the WEP back on the router and retyped the 26-digit password into the BlackBerry. The WiFi stopped working. Then I tried WPA2 on the Netgear and presto, the 9550 "turned white" again after I typed in the new password.
So I think the bottom line is WEP probably doesn't work with the Storm 2. I know it somehow works for some of you, but at least for me with a Netgear Router and Comcast ISP, WEP and Storm 2 are out. I've switched to WPA2, and the WiFi is performing beautifully (just checked again as I'm typing this).
Sorry for the long (first post ever on Crackberry), but I'm hoping this will help a few of the people still stranded without WiFi on the Storm 2.
