I have quite the same issues.
Except that my wi-fi internet connections does work and does turn white. I use the same wi-fi connection to my computer and it works fine on the computer. Twitter on my blackberry works. But Msn, blackberry messenger, facebook and the browser no longer works. Does anybody know why is this? ..And how exactly to fix it.

We have a no contract post paid without data. I think the problems you are having is you are smarter than the phone. All I had to do was turn on allow data. (Even though to my mind that does not include wifi!) Everything gets better... good luck and don't outhink your phone...

Bump to this thread. I have the same issue. I graduated from a T-Mobile Blackberry 8320 to an unlocked ATT Blackberry 9000 running on T-Mobile.

I would like to use the 8320 when I have wifi connection just to read email and use google, but it never works when my T-Mobile Simcard is not inserted. I do have a T-mobile call and blackberry data plan, but I want to use it for the 9000, not the 8320.

Is there anyway at all to use the 8320 without the simcard+dataPlan, much like an itouch, meaning accessing the internet?

I am sure T-Mobile and other networks don't want you to do this, but it would be great if there was a way to get around it by adjusting the settings. Thank you.

I have the same problem with my bold 9700. I have tried rebooting and my browser is set to "hotspot browser"

I am "connected" to the wifi network but I am unable to use the internet?

I cannot turn my data on as I am overseas and would therefore like to connect via wifi...

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

*** (oops - found the problem) Need to set "Options -> Mobile Network -> Data Services" to On. ***

This bites. I have an unlocked BB9700 and a T-Mobile prepaid card (try before you buy(sort of)). I had wi-fi working just fine before inserting that T-Mobile sim card and now I can't use my wi-fi.

Here's what I see, though:

- my router shows my blackberry is connected and has given it an IP of 192.168.1.8

- my blackberry says it's connected to my router, but the IP is 0.0.0.0 and wifi diagnostics says "Status: IP address no longer valid."

Default Partial solution !?! and new issue/symptom

In my case I found I could connect to work and public wifi, browsing without problems, but no luck in my own house. The same error symptoms and messages (connected but no internet) as the rest of this thread.

I updated the firmware in the router (a USR2249 wireless access point) and after rebooting, it worked!

This was fine for the weekend, but then it retuned to the same problem. Went to Work Monday and it worked there. Got home, rebooted the router using the access application on the PC, and lo and behold!, it works again. (presumably for a few more days).

Any ideas on this?

Dan

PS I am pay-as-you-go and dont have a dataplan.

Default Solution

Hey Guys,
I have found a solution. My friend gave me two bb curves for telus (no sim), one was broken, the other he didnt feel like selling. I don't have a data plan and this number is no longer in use.. and I'm a fido user. So I thought it would be neat to see if I can use this for browsinng WiFi. The way I got it working (literally did just now - on facebook with it haha):

Under Manage Connections:
- All connections off, except wifi...
- Mobile network Options > Data Services on, While Roaming on, Network Selection Mode = Home Only

Within the browser itself, click 4 and you should see configurations:
under Browser Config:
- Browser = Hotspot Browser
- Brower Identification = firefox

General Properties:
default browser = hosspot brower
- Enable Java script location support

---that is all.. let me know if it works! (I joined just to share this lol)

Default Get your wifi work and avoid oeperators data charges

If you want to use Wi-Fi without being charged for carrier data follow the guide:

1. you have to keep 'DATA SERVICES' (Networks and Connections-> Mobile Network) ON.

(the same with 'WHILE ROAMING' - ON, don't know if this one is obligatory,
but better to have it this way)

Otherwise, your wifi wont work.

2. But then BB use sometimes also data from your operator, that are charged.
TO AVOID this just go to SERVICE BOOK (Options->Device->Advanced System Settings->TCP IP) and delete all the lines starting with WAP, WAP2... (I kept only: 'Eurotel MMS Transport [WAP]'', Wi-Fi TCP/IP Browser[BrowserConfig], Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport[WPTCP], BlackBerry Identity[BBID])

(for those who dont know how to delete lines: press BB key, then you will see Delete option)

If you will need use operators data service, keep configuration sms, and you can use it in emergency situation, where no wifi is present, to restore all deleted lines required,

Thats it GOOD LUCK
