Default web os might have a chance yet

It appears that HP is going to release it as open source and give it away in direct competition to Google.

I hope it works for them. The more players in the game, the harder everyone has to work for improvement.

The consumer comes out the winner.

Edit: fixed website address.

Open source doesn't mean web os has a chance. It has to get a momentum for hardware manufacturers to adopt it, and then hope consumers like it.

Very true, but making it open source is a very good first step toward that possible outcome, meaning that, as the OP stated, web os "might have a chance yet"

Releasing it in any fashion (open source or otherwise) gives it a chance. Granted, it has an up hill battle. Only time will tell.

The only way it wouldn't have a chance is if it was abandoned and shoved in a vault somewhere.

I am happy to know it can live on in the wild with the help of a passionate WebOS community having the access to the source code.
