Default Sprint Palm Pre - Battery Life Questions

Hey guys & gals... My girlfriend, against my better judgement, went ahead and purchased a Palm Pre from Sprint last week (her first smartphone) and she is whining about it's ridiculously short battery life. I told her, battery life on smartphones just isn't comparable to her old dumbphone and that is something she needs to adjust to.

I told her that she "might" be able to save some battery life by keeping wi-fi turned off (unless she's specifically going to be using data with a wifi connection, ie. in her house) and turning off GPS (if that's even possible on the Palm Pre). Please keep in mind that I know NOTHING about the Pre.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase battery life on this device? I've explained to her the importance of closing apps and the other standard "things" we all try to do to stretch battery life. But, again, with my lack of knowledge regarding the Pre, I am lost after that...

Any help would be much appreciated!

Update to the latest OS will help a bit, turn down the screen brightness, but the phone has basically always had bad battery life...

Thanks Papped. I will give it a look once I can actually have the phone in my hands. Again, due to my complete inexperience with the Pre, I didn't even know it had screen brightness adjustment... lol

Cheers!

There are extended batteries that you can buy for the Palm Pre. If you got to precentral.net, you will be able to find some. It will make the devuce a little bulky, but it should help with battery life.

Go to www.precentral.net and go to the forums. They have a huge thread entirely about extending battery life.

Also, Palm and webOS are really big into using patches to fix problems. There might be a patch for battery life.

Probably the only patch you are going to find to improve the battery life is if you underclock the cpu.

I used the uber kernal and set it as 800/250 and would go from 8AM to midnight with no problem. Leaving wifi on doesn't hurt battery life unless it's not connected to a network.

Use the screenstate on Uberkernal using govnah (if you have no idea what this is, head over to precentral and find look up overclocking). I personally have mine set to 125 - 720. I have seen a increase in battery life, but its still pretty bad.

Battery life really is bad on the Pre/Pre+. Thats the primary reason I returned my AT&T pre plus within the 30 day return window and got myself the BB Torch.

One a positive note, the wall charger is real fast. It charges the phone to 95% in about an hour or so.

The extended batteries will fatten the phone (they come with a replacement back cover). WebOS 2.0 coming out in the next few months promises to make the battery efficiency a bit better.

The best extended battery for the Palm Pre that fits in the original battery space with the original back is the Mugen 1400 mAh and is not available through PreCentral.

Available here:
[HLI-PRESL] Buy Mugen Power 1400mAh Extended Battery For Palm Pre, Palm Pre 2 and Palm Pixi

Avoid the Seidio 1350 at all costs, many of them are repackaged 1150 mAh batteries.

Same, I have 3 touchstones. Battery life is not that good, might want to download the data connection patch and turn off data when not using it, saves battery drastically. Also could have a defective battery.
