Default Pre vs Tour

I am 2 weeks into my Pre trial and am thinking about the Tour. My biggest problems with the Pre are short battery life, low signal issues at times and week task and memo apps. The screen is terrific and the browser is almost as good as the iPhone.

This morning I went to a Verizon store to check out the Tour. Great keyboard, very responsive, small but vibrant screen. I have never had a BB so trying it out in the store for 10 minutes is not enough to make a call.

I think the Pre will get some updates for the issues I mentioned above but there are no guarantees, of course. And, the Tour may have its own issues although the BB OS doesn't change much with new releases so it should be stable.

Anyone here looking at the Pre vs Tour that has some experience with BB?

Not looking at the Pre or the Tour, but I can tell you that the Tour is basically the same as every BB with some hardware upgrades. That's it. The OS has been the same for a long time. If you want something different and innovative, stick with the Pre.

I would also rather have the Bold (which I do) than the Tour.

No question the Pre is innovative and different from everything else at the moment. From my 10 minute test drive of the Tour it seemed very much like a friends Curve so I see what you mean about the OS.

I do like the Bold but I can't bring myself to pay AT&T's rates when I have gotten very good service from Sprint for the past 8 years.

If they are good in your area, that is all that matters. Stick with them because they do have the best rates. And yes, the Tour is a mix between a Bold and an 8900. It is a very nice phone though.

I agree with the sentiments here. If you want something new then you don't want a Tour. Same old device packed in a 8900-Bold hybrid case. I do know people are excited on Sprint and VZW, as they been working with a Curve for a very long time, and the Storm was just a disaster.

it's funny how so many pre owners can't wait to return their pre and get the tour. i figured this would happen once the tour came out.

the tour feels like a fine piece of well crafted machinery while the pre feels like a 5th grade science class project your kid waited until the night before to put together.

the tour will DEFINITELY outlast the pre and hold up MUCH better over two years. by that time a pre owner will be duct taping their phone together after insurance starts refusing to replace them.

it's beyond me how someone can compare these phones hand in hand and choose the pre over the tour. suckers for abuse i guess.

I finally made it to the store today to play with the Tour. Honestly I'm not sure I would have upgraded from my Curve even if I hadn't moved to the Pre. Maybe if wifi was already included. Short of that, it would be a minor upgrade. The key is in the OS RIM. I could go out and build a beautiful new PC, but if I turn around and put Win 98 on it, whats the point?

Hardware looks beautiful but feels average. The OS and user interface is probably the best thing going right now.

The only people giving up their Pre's for BB are the Hardcore BB addicts that tried to get of the Crack but just can't.....Same with the Iphone vs BB, many have tried but BB pulled them back.

I am still using the Pre now going on 3 weeks. Battery life has gotten better with time and I have not had a dropped call all week. PIM apps need a major make over or 3rd party solution but now that the SDK is out I suspect that will be coming.

I went back to my Treo 755p the other day to look up a document I have stored there. The 755, while extremely productive and easy to use, feels old and dated and boring. While I have only used a friends Curve once in a while it has the same feel to it as the Treo...very productive, solid and you can depend on it to get the job done but it is kind of boring. The Pre, on the other hand, has some bugs that need to be ironed out such as alarms not always working. It also seems the BB Tour has its own set of bugs that RIM needs to address.

I think the Pre has the potential to become an awesome device but I am still on the fence as to whether I can continue to use it while it is still evolving. I still have over a week to decide and there is major OS release rumored for 7/22.

i had the pre for 2 weeks......cool phone.
but it has some major issues that led me back to bb curve.

first of all the screen is very small for a touch phone, the keyboard is a joke!
be prepared to keep a spare charger with you at all times as battery life is horrible.

on the plus side, the OS was amazing.....i just hope they get better hardware very soon then the phone would be a great product!
