My money is on HTC.

I hope WebOS survives though, would be a shame if it dies

I'd love for Dell to buy them. Too bad they back off. Imagine HTC bought them, would they even bother making devices for Android or Windows Phone 7?. I would want Apple to as they'd lock WebOS even more. Nor Google, they're too big IMO.

Agreed. The platform had so much potential.

Why would HTC want to buy Palm? They already use the Android platform and plans to use windows 7. Both of those platforms are more dynamic than WebOS. It would seem like a step backwards.

Takes away some competition, and you can use what good things came of webOS and intergrade it into their OS.

Yeah, the thing is webOS isn't really much of a competitor right now.. The userbase is small and the OS needs a lot of work.

HTC would be a perfect marriage with WebOS. That would be a must have device on my list if they ever put Webos on a device like the EVO.

It would be a good match ideally, I'm just not sure if it makes sense.

Android already has a userbase that is growing and they already make the phones. HTC doesn't really have to sell the idea of Android, they just have to sell the phones.

If they buy webOs, they have to push both the platform and the phones...

Don't think they should buy palm altogether but rather purchase WebOS license so that they would be covered under palms patents against law suits from the likes of apple and in turn they can make devices for WebOS. Palms real major downfall with the Pre was the hardware itself and not the OS. People loved the OS but hated the hardware. HTC to date has produced some of the best hardware devices. Could be a win win situation for both. Right now HTC has the luxury of just manufacturing phones for Windows and Android and are profiting but they can stand to lose against apple in court so those palm patents could come in real handy.

Should this affect my decision in buying a phone? I have been looking at the pre plus

would this affect future updates to the OS, etc??
