Just went through the archives and dug out this piece of interesting news on the upcoming BOLD-sized Palm device:

Yup, it's pretty much the replacement for the Centro. Smaller "hard drive" than the Pre, same OS, candybar style. It's supposedly going to at least two carriers later this year.

Replacement of CENTRO or upgrade of Treo Pro? Anything more you know or can share on this one? Will it be running WebOS?

Replacement of Centro. They are completely eliminating the PalmOS, as it is being replaced now with WebOS. Centro is the last PalmOS unit.

They'll be keeping WinMo Treo on the roster for a while longer, it's their bigger market right now, businesses and all with EAS.

Pixie is the codename for the Palm Eos, though it's still up in the air whether or not the codename is Castle and there's another unit out there. It originally was supposed to only be going to ATT as a GSM unit but I believe that has changed and it might be like the Tour, where it went to multiple carriers. So it might be a Sprint and ATT launch simultaneously or around the same time.

ATT Specs...
* 4GB storage
* Price: $349 (pre-rebate)
* Camera: 2 megapixel fixed focus digital camera and flash / video capture
* Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP and EDR, USB 2.0 via micro USB
* Removable 1150 mAh battery (4 hours 3G talk time)
* Messaging: SMS, MMS (picture and video only), integrated IM client
* Contact sync with AT&T Address Book
* MediaNet
* Cellular Video
* Email: POP3, IMAP4, and EAS support
* A-GPS
* Audio: WAV, MP3, AAC, AAC+ ringtones
* Video Playback: MPEG4, H.264, H.263

Two links to (not much) more info as there isn't much available to share:

I read that the device may never see the light of day due to the poor sales of Pre: Palm Pixie Is Real, But May Never Come To Market

Anyone have info to the contrary?

First of all that article is 2 months old. So 6 days after the launch of a brand new device, sales were so bad?

Whatever. I dismiss that article as BS.

Typically in the IT world bad news is what it says it is - BAD N.E.W.S.

We might never see this puppy: Palm Eos coming in October, or next year, or some other time, or never

The Pre has some good points but it didnt sell well. That's just the reality of the situation. Verizon will most likely gobble up Palm anyway, they're pretty low on the food chain.

IMO, it is highly unlikely for a network operator to buy a hardware manufacturer but hey, stranger things have happened.

I guess the sooner Palm realize the Pre is not a cash cow, the sooner they'll move on and build on the excellent idea they came up with, i.e. release the PIXIE + WebOS 1.fresh

Less than a day later, we have news to the contrary: Compal Communications to start shipping Eos smartphones to Palm in October, says paper

Apparently, this IS in the works and it should ship in about a month's time... Hmmmm...

Quote:
Taiwan-based handset maker Compal Communications is expected to start volume shipments of Palm's entry-level smartphones, the Eos, in October 2009, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Monthly orders for the Eos, which features a 2.6-inch multi-touch display and supports GSM/HSPA initially, will reach 400,000-500,000 units, which will help drive up Compal's revenues starting in the fourth quarter, the paper said, adding Compal will also begin to ship a CDMA EV-DO version of the Eos to Palm in the first quarter of 2010.

there are supposedly already unit ID codes in both ATT and Sprint catalogs for it as well.

It didn't sell well? Post some actual proof please. There weren't nearly as many units made and they sold all they had. How is that not selling well?

I don't have to prove anything to you sir. The reality of the situation is in the grand scheme of things Palm is in debt and is not turning a viable profit to impress wall street shareholders. Dont get me wrong Palm is a founding father of the smartphone/PDA industry, but reality is reality.

So you are stating your speculation and calling it fact? Exactly. Again, I call BS.

And for the record: I am not a sir.
