The Pre is desired, but not in huge mass numbers compared to all the hype it had.
I think theyre merely pointing out the difference between initial hype, and staying power. And so far it seems like once the initial hype died off sales have slowed down a lot compared to something like an iphone which is constantly desired and always flying off shelves.
