These days everybody feels they are entitled to something even leeching companies like Palm. Instead of getting of their lazy behinds and developing their own syncing software that syncs with itunes like respectable companies like RIM and Nokia, they decide to use hacks and steal Apple's vendor ids so that the Pre can pretend to be an ipod. When Apple decides to shut this loophole down, they are the evil company while Palm who are just a bunch of mere hackers are angels.
itunes is not some open source software that anybody can use. It is developed by Apple and not Palm. It is not some public utility. Apple is not preventing you from purchasing songs from itunes and putting them on your Pre. They just don't want you using the syncing feature of itunes to put the songs on it. That is a selling point for iphones and ipods. Instead of developing their own software they want to depend on itunes to sync music, pictures, and videos for them and when Apple shuts them down, they go and complain to the USB group which rightfully gave them the slap they deserve. You don't hear ipod users complaining that they can't sync with Zune software or Zune users complaining that their Zunes can't sync with itunes. Why doesn't my Cannon Printer sync with HP's software. Palm are just being the leeches that they are, attaching their name to Apple. Find me one article since the Pre was released about Palm that doesn't have Apple in it. Why won't they turn into mere hackers when they know they'll clueless people supporting them. The funny thing in all of this is the old Palm devices didn't sync with itunes but when the guys from Apple came over to Palm and brought this itunes syncing, we are now hearing that Palm is advocating for consumer choice. I guess they all of a sudden decide to become advocates when they got the Apple guys who knew about itunes. Palm is just as greedy as Apple, using consumers as pawns in their so called fight with Apple.
