The BBMaps software included with 4.5 and newer was approved for network access. But rim didn't get approval for previous versions. I don't know if they didn't submit or if the older versions didn't pass testing, but it means that anything before 4.5 can only use vznav. 4.5 can use vznav or bbmaps. Newer BBs like Storm and Tour with the better gps chip can use anything that works on BB but even with those phones, only bbmaps and vznav can use the agps for faster locating.
