If I use a software such as Mundo for my IM, will I be charged per message sent/received?

More then likely. That why BB messenger is so popular. That doesn't count against your text messages.

I used Mundu IM for like 2 years on my Treo. It used data there, and not SMS (although I think it might be able to be setup this way, I don't recall)

I like JiveTalk better on my BB for it's alerts and auto-away when holstered, although I seem to lose IMs fairly frequently while using it in a low signal strength area. Just my sent IMs, people just don't get them sometimes. However, it happened while using mobile AIM (but not GTalk app it seems). It wouldn't happen using IM+ though, and it never happened using Mundu on my Treo over Sprint even with the junk signal I got.

Bb messenger is great but it only works with other bberries. I've been using jivetalk for a few days and other than a few connection issues its been great.

Mundu and Jivetalk both work off of data plans and not SMS plans. So as long as you have a unlimited data plan you will be all set.
