AT&T is the same. Both companies maintain the EXACT pricing structure. When one company switches, higher or lower, the other coincides. I'd recommend switching to a different air rate. I text like crazy and frankly do not use that many minutes. Plus most of my calls are mobile to mobile via Verizon. There are ways to save money. Just gotta be creative.

I think its all relative to getting what you pay for! I have had several other carriers and LOVE Verizon. Sprint has a $99 for everything plan, which includes unlimited dropped calls...... I know AT&T gave me free newver ending dropped calls til I dropped them.I think that I have dropped 5 calls in the past year on The-network. Dont think thats a bad deal at all.

me and my wife just switched last week and both got a storm. Our bill will be about 10-15 bucks a month more compared to our alltel bill and we didn't have any smartphones on our alltel account.

Here is the breakdown of what we had with alltel and what we have now with verizon:

    Alltel:
    900 mins/month
1st line- 700 text messages and "internet" (the non-smart phone version)
    2nd line- 250 text messages
    3rd line- tethering for internet
total monthly $140-$150 after taxes and after my 15% discount (on just the original plan)

    Verizon:
    700 mins/month
1st line- unlimited text, BIS, tethering
    2nd line- unlimited text, BIS
total monthly $152 before taxes (haven't got our 1st bill yet so don't know actual amount) and after my discount of 20% of the plan, 20% of both BIS, and 20% of tethering

So we're pretty happy to not be paying that much more and essentially getting more bang for our buck.
Could ya try to keep it down? I was up kinda late last night...........

I think the old adage applies you get what you paid for. In my area Verizon has the best service but for others its att, but tmobile the cheapest pretty much sucks no matter where you are!

Get tmobile. They have good signal in NYC and they are cheaper than att and vzw! Plus there customer service is awesome (24 hour suppor)!

Verizon does have good Service and Coverage....But they are by no means the only carrier to provide solid coverage....

And for those that think M2M to 80million is free, Please they bake that right into their pricing scheme....They care less if you dont use any of those 450mins as long as you pay that 70$ bill a month.

and Maybe Verizon's prices would be more justifiable if they didnt insist on Locking Crippling and Disabling Everything that doesnt bring them more cash,.

The term "raped" means assaulted...A .r.a.p.i.s.t uses actual force or violence or the threat of it to take control over another human being.

Do you feel Verizon is controling you? Forcing you to do something you don't wish to do? If you don't like the fees why not switch carriers?

Why do so many people feel they deserve something or are owed something by others, including a business like Verizon? Maybe it's the "spread the wealth around" mentality?

And when I said "owed" I meant up and above what was agreed upon in the beginning...like a Verizon contract.

I guess I'm confused. Were you not aware of the charges when you switched to them? I've been with them for years, I renew every year to get a new phone and their service is great. You can always opt out by paying the cancellation fee of $175. I know it's steep but if you can get a better price through another carrier you may be better off doing this and saving money over the long haul.

In the end though, this all falls on you. You made the decision to go with Verizon and if you didn't read the charges associated with your contract then you have nobody to blame but yourself. Sorry.

Yes, they are more expensive than, let's say, tmobile or sprint. But (at least where I leave) they have the best coverage.

And plus, shouldn't you have thought about think before you signed up? I mean they tell you how much it's going to cost every month. So I don't see what the problem is here.

If VZW was more comparative with their pricing, they would get more customers. Everyone is similiar as far as coverage in my area, and there is nothing new that VZW offers over anyone else. I have experienced pretty much the same service with them as with everyone else I have used. But they are definitely pricey when it comes down to BB;s and other smartphone services.

The government has a hand in your pocket too - check your bill, tax is calculated ON TOP OF another tax.

They are taxing a tax. Doesn't get much worse than that.

I hate to think that you are unhappy with Verizon. I can't imagine such a day. You should port your number to a different carrier. Life is to short!

If you got what you paid for, AT&T would not currently be ranked as the worst all-around service.

Look at Verizon and T-Mobile coverage charts, they are almost identical. Verizon DOES have more service in more locations in the US, but that really benefits those in really rural areas. In city locations, no matter what carrier you have, it should be boomin'. If it's not, you are simply getting ripped off.

According to Consumer Reports, Verizon and T-Mobile offer the BEST service coverage nation-wide. So close, that neither one was claimed to actually be better. In my personal experience with both companies, Verizon has a stronger service in the VERY rural locations that I travel to about once every two or three years. Whereas, T-Mobile offers more affordable services, stronger signals overall (my experience, depends where you live), and great customer service.

i been hearing a lot of good things about T-mobile. I might take a look at them in december when its time to renew. I would like to get a little more feedback for their coverage in the NYC area tho, especially in regards to 3g.

Only thing that'll make it hard is that I know the updated bold, the new curve, maybe even updated storm will be out by then. Even tho verizon gets them late, the one good thing isthat they're always updated and improved upon, never just carried over. Look at the curve as an example of that

Speed on VZW is lightyears ahead of the others. It is why they kept on with CDMA & EVDO over GSM & EDGE. You don't get the latency issues with CDMA that you do with GSM which contributes a huge amount toward the goal of minimal dropped calls, especially while in motion. CDMA is also more expensive to implement & maintain than is GSM. Some say this is a reason CDMA is the predominant technology is the more developed & less socialist areas of the world.

I need to find the link to my post here illustrating the key differences between the two technologies.

Are there areas where all carriers shine? Of course there are. Are there customers who wouldn't notice a difference between any of them? Again, yes. Are there pricing differences? If you said yes, you're onto my pattern here. Where the differences lie are in patterns of movement & usage expectations.

If you move around North America the way I do, and find yourself off the beaten path, there is no alternative to VZW, especially if you depend on call reliability. If you find yourself spending most or all of your time in one local area & tend to not even head toward the outskirts of town, any decent carrier in your area might do you. If you plan on heading to Europe a lot, you might lean toward a GSM solution.

When you compare services, apple to apple, there is no difference between AT&T & VZW. In fact, for most people, VZW is less expensive, by a hair. Sure, Sprint & T-Mobile are less expensive, but find yourself in Roswell, NM, Blythe, CA, Sedona, AZ, Cheyenne, WY, Enid, OK or in much of Wisconsin or the Dakotas or Montana, you may not feel your choice of T-Mobile or Sprint to be a very smart one.

Apples to apples is the best way to compare prices, yet too many people aren't paying attention to the crabapples or the prunes in the bushel.

Quality costs money and given a choice, I will opt for quality over price any day. I know VZW & AT&T are the most expensive. They do not lock down anything in hopes of sucking more money out of people. Those who know the realities of the technologies know this. For my money, I will stick with VZW & let those with fallacies branded to their brain cells go with less features & quality.

the problem is that people just want to gripe and complain thinking others will agree with them.
being that I do technical support for Verizon "smartphones" and I have Sprint (being a broke 21 year old sucks) I enjoy the fact I pay 99$, however, I would trade my Sprint for Verizon in a heart-beat based on Tech Support alone (Sprint doesn't really know ANYTHING, ie: calling them day 1 for the bis site while activating phone, no idea what I was talking about) ... let alone the coverage.

they can keep the prices and unlock the GPS and I will be fine

And with wifi on the horizon, they just have to keep up the good CS and reliability to win me over at the end of the year.

The gimmics.... thats where they lose me! All have their gimmics but as of right now, verizon has...... more! (forced data, paying for GPS, $20 extra texting on top of data plan, vzw apps that use texts to IM, paying for visual VM, extreme prices for tethering, and a few other things in their past like restricting bluetooth file sharing, restricting MP3s as ring tones, restricting transfers of purchased music from one device to another, restricting personal pictures as backgrounds, charging airtime to shop their v-cast store and then charging $15 to be able to surf the same store unlimited but then still having to purchase the stuff LMAO too funny, ringtones costing $3 for 20 seconds of a song, etc)

It is so unfair the Government forced you to sign up with Verizon and refused to tell you the price and terms/conditions beforehand. It's also unfair they did not give you a 30-day worry free guarantee to back out of your contract. Oh wait, you signed up with Verizon voluntarily AND had the chance read/signed a contract AND agreed to the rate plan AND had 30 days to cancel. Nevermind. Mods please delete.

P.S. Your gripe about NE2 is understandable but let's not forget your NE2 rate (100 or 50) will be honored for your next upgrade eligibility at the end of 2010. Assuming you take advantage of this, your "reduced" NE2 wouldn't apply until 2012.

A lot of it is not realising what theyre signing up for. They see the phone they want and all logic goes out of the window, they dont hear anything else.
They move from another network in the first place because of supposed problems, take their issues elsewhere and as soon as something goes wrong or isnt quite at the standard they expected are up in arms again.

Not so much rape, you are giving it up willingly.. Pricing is not that far out of line with the other carriers especially for the service and network speed.
Try tmo or sprint for a couple weeks, not a lot of happy endings there..
