After porting number out and paying ETF, how long must I wait before I may purchase a new phone? (9930)

I know ATT has or had a 6 month period before a new contract can be established. The current account itself can be reopened but the equipment upgrade eligibility will be set accordingly based on the account tenure and such. Of course you can always buy the device, when available, at full retail price.
