Default 8330 curve switching between 1X and 1XEV

    Hi all,
My phone recently began acting up by switching between 1X and 1XEV.
I am in NYC, so I know I am in the middle of an EVDO network. My coworkers who have the same phone are locked on 1XEV.

This is what I have tried so far with no luck:

    Battery pull
    Resent service books
    *228 option 2
    *228 option 1

I am at a loss here. My battery life is not what is should be with all the constant switching.

My last resort is wiping the device, but I would rather not do that unless it's necessary.

Any thoughts or ideas? Any menu options I should check? This is getting frustrating.

    Thanks in advance.

1X means you are roaming on someone elses towers.

thanks for the quick reply. Why would my device choose to do this quite often compared to the other 8330's that rarely do it?

I have 2 devices side by side, and mine is in 1X and the other is in 1XEV.

    Any settings to check?

I've been having trouble in the Metro DC area with a Storm and an enV, though my girlfriend's Curve is fine. Keep flipping between 1x and 1xev.

1x is non 3G speeds, 1xev is 3G speeds. Then there's the whole issue of caps vs non caps. VZW could just be having some evdo network issues in your area.
I was a Treo user. Then the light of BlackBerry shone, and I was never the same.

    Default to display signal strength

alt + n m l l (hold down the alt key, and press the nmll keys) this will toggle between the -db signal strength and bar graph display. If you have your phone and another 8330 side by side you can compare numerical signal strength of the two phones. You know, try to rule out an antenna or radio coverage issue. It won't hurt, and it's kind of entertaining, if nothing else.

The idle channel is determined by the MIN so it would be normal to see this.

No, 1X indicates there is no usable EVDO signal available. The roaming triangle is what indicates you are roaming on another carrier.

Are both phones using the same theme? Sometimes certain themes will have problems displaying the correct signal indicators.

    thanks for all the replies...

we are both using stock VZW theme.

I have wiped my phone and reloaded everything except my 3rd party apps.

I am still getting the 1X to 1XEV switch, in my office in the middle of Times Square. My coworkers phone has no issues.

I hope I do not have to swap the phone
