Default Why wont my curve send texts while I am on the phone?

Ok so I have the blackberry curve 8330, and everytime I am on the phone it will not allow me to send a text. It just shows the little clock till I am off the phone. Any way I can fix this?

You can't use any kind of data while on the phone. So no sending or receiving texts, calls or browsing the internet.

Well I can get text messages while I am on the phone. And sometimes I can send out texts for like the first 15 mins while I am on the phone, then it stops. So I think there should atleast be some way to fix this?

CDMA does not have the ability to handle data and voice at the same time so there is no fix. It's just not possible. On my curve 8330 every now and then a text would come through right after a call came in but not often. If you want that ability you'll need a GSM carrier. I can't see your carrier because I'm on my phone but I'm assuming since your phone won't send and receive texts while on a call that you have a CDMA carrier.

My understanding is that EV-DO rev .0 doesn't support voice + data.

Possibly, EV-DO rev .a will allow you to send/receive SMS and MMS while on a phone call (still not using the data network), but not voice + data. I know I've received SMS messages while on the phone.

EV-DO rev .b is supposed to support voice + data, but nobody has ever upgraded to it. With LTE around the corner, rev .b probably won't ever appear.

CDMA does not allow voice and data at the same time, but SMS texting is not data, it's sent through the voice line (which is why there's a limit to the length of the message and why anyone with a cell phone can text).

I can send and receive texts while I'm talking on my Curve 8330. However, I cannot surf the web, send e-mail, or send BBM messages.

I was about to say what this guy said and saw he did. he is right. a text is not data. i dont remember exactly how it works but i know it uses the same tech that allows you to have notifications of a voicemail and i think that you are getting a call.

From my limited experience with a blackberry (curve 8330) I believe that texting works differently on a BB.

Now on my HTC Touch Pro 2, I can send/recieve text messages all I want in a call. The same goes for any winmo/dumb phone.

Now, this is just my speculation. Text messages go through the blackberry messenger service which uses data, not phone. Since you are already in the phone call it can't go through.

Now, i've always wondered if you turned on wifi if it could process it through there in a call. I do that all the time with my TP2. This way i can be in a call and still surf the internet.

See above, text messages, even on a BlackBerry are transmitted over the voice line, just on a different channel. They are not sent over data, don't confuse text messages with BlackBerry Messenger.

Patially true. SMS uses what's known as a "control channel" (which is also used to set up the call, and let the tower know what cell you're in at present) - which is why the length is limited to 160 characters.

I have the Tour on build 5.0.0.662. Just last night I was on a call with speakerphone, and was able to send and receive a text. Now...I will say previously I couldn't. Not sure if it is something with my OS build or something new that USCC's system is letting happen. I'll test it a few more times and report back what occurs.
