Venting about Tour Profiles and OS Upgrade

I got my USCC Tour on Halloween (bad joke?), and compared to the Pearl, I've loved it. US Cellular has done their best to help, but the Profiles do not work properly. This has been well documented. I thought Custom Profiles was a work around, but that won't always work either (I tried it on numerous phones). My gripe is how RIM can keep this going without at least a patch for 4.7. I could probably turn it in for a Curve, but I like it in every other way, just silly that a known and irritating problem has to wait for an entire OS release to fix. This must be causing USCC techs a heartache too with many phone calls of complaints about Profiles not working right.

i don't have an answer to your question, but i'm about to switch to a USCC Tour...
what do you mean by "not working right" exactly?

You should probably look in this forum...lots of posts from me as well as others, and also in blackberryforums.com. But in a nutshell, the Profiles don't allow much flexibility. I have had difficulty getting one to be silent, another with vibrate, and another with a ringtone. If I change one, it changes the others. So if I make a ringtone for phone on "Normal" profile, I get the same one on "silent" despite that fact that Silent should be no ring. Very frustrating. Mine works for me now in that i don't require rings, just vibrate or silent. I think I can get two out of the three to work without a lot of hassle. But haven't gotten all 3 (silent, ring, vibrate) to work. This should be fixed soon with OS 5, but they won't say when. USCC has been great however, this isn't their fault. If you can wait for OS 5, may want to. Or just get the Curve 2 which is quite a good phone too from them.

thanks for spelling it out for me. this is the first i've heard of this.

my tour is already in transit, to be delivered this week, so i guess i'll have to make do. like you, i really don't ever need anything besides silent and vibrate, so i should probably be alright if i end up having the same issues that you're having.

anyway, if USCC takes their sweet time releasing 5.0, which i'm basically counting on happening, i don't have anything against installing the OS from another carrier. i may not be a certified 'genius,' but i can at least get that far, haha.

If you don't mind, I would like to hear from you again AFTER you see how the Tour is working. This Profiles thing is puzzling as it doesn't seem Universal, but I do know that I got a USCC tech rep to duplicate the problem with 2 Tours while on the phone with him, hence he connected me to RIM which solved the problem once (custom profiles then worked), but after I had a crash and had to reload everything, that same method no longer worked to fix it. But since I have Silent, and Vibrate, I'm fine for now, and the phone is otherwise lots of fun. Oh, beware that if you got the phone from USCC, they void the warranty with a non USCC OS installed.
