Default tour now or curve 2 later?

the title says it all.

i've had this curve for about a year now. don't get me wrong, it's been a great bb, and i've grown to love (almost) everything about it. but after seeing the beta os and how the 8330 labors with it, and watching new devices dropping pretty rapidaly, i feel it's time for an upgrade.

now, the tour is available on uscc. i have to say, what an awesome-looking upgrade! sharP lcd, great camera (with autofocus!), larger keypad, tons of flash mem and a hefty processor, sim slot, all great things.

the curve 2 has its own pros, however. optical trackball(!), wifi, dedicated media keys, and the much more affordable price tag. unfortunately, we probably won't see it until sometime early next year.

when it comes down to it, i think i'll probably go with a tour now, rather than wait another 3-6 months for the curve 2. why? mostly because it's available now, but also because of the lcd and camera.

what about everyone else? what factors are weighing your decisions on upgrading?

For me it's the keyboard. The keys on both the Curve and Curve 2 are too small for my big-*** hands.

The media keys don't excite me. No phone will replace a dedicated media player for me so I won't use them.

WiFi is nice but I've had it on other phones and rarely used it. If I'm home I'm using a computer, if I'm on the go I'm not near a WiFi hotspot so it's nice to have in a pinch but not a necessity.

I haven't held the 8520 to try the optical trackpad but the trackball works well enough for me that I'm not waiting around for that alone.

for myself, the media player in the phone is a must. i've never owned an ipod and probably never will, and i can't justify spending money on a media player when there's already one in my phone that does what i need it to do.

it would be nice to have a trackpad because i'm in a fairly dirty environment on weekends and i have to clean the ball pretty regularly just to get it to function, but it's not enough of a selling point to make me wait around.

I don't have any intel on this but it's certainly not USCC's style to launch a phone with such minor upgrades (WiFi and the optical trackpad).

It would be a pleasant surprise, but a surprise for sure.

Seeing how USCC has stepped it up in the past few months, I can see them going against the norm and picking it up. It may be 3 or 4 months after the initial launch, but I think we'll get it.

i've been hearing some negative feedback on the tour.

apparently the lcd is very prone to pressure cracks. i did notice that pressing the menu and back buttons causes some distortion on the bottom of the lcd. i don't want to have to replace the lcd every other month...

I can't (or won't) give too much away, but I have it on good word that it will be sooner. Maybe Santa will bring you one for Christmas.

ETA: And you're correct about USCC stepping it up. From what we're hearing (which isn't much, but we do hear some stuff) the company is not going to sit back and watch as other service providers introduce new devices and technologies.

Which are you talking about, the Tour2 or the Curve 2? I've talked it over with my wife and she's getting the Curve 2 as soon as USCC gets it. I've been wearing her down about getting a BlackBerry since the Pearl Flip came out on USCC. If it's the Curve 2, then I don't have to figure out a Christmas present, lol.
