Default Nexus One

The Google Nexus One phone is now available with T-Mobile, and Big Red is releasing a CDMA version this spring. Who is thinking or hoping that US Cellular will offer this phone? I am happy with my Tour, but the wife is really liking this Nexus One. So here is hoping.

US Cellular won't "offer" it but you *may* be able to surreptitiously activate it on USCC like folks do with other VZW phones.

Don't hold your breath. Att will have full bars of 3G over the entire planet before US Cell gets the nexus.

Default Good Luck

I have U.S Cellular (until my contract is done) and i've learned: if its a service and you want it they dont provide it; if the phones not outdated technology they dont support it. It's my belief that this company will fail in the next ten (make that 5) years if they dont change the way they do business. I'm surprissed we're not still stuck with the old box shaped Nokias (remember the green screens )

A common comment, yet no one ever provides examples, except ringbacks, in which case please, by all means, go elsewhere.

Well, one of my biggest complaints was lack of 3G. Now that they have 3G in my area I am happier. Getting 3G system wide and 3G roaming agreements would be one example.

Another.....Quit "testing" new phones for 2 years and release them already. Same with software updates. Give the tech department a kick in the pants, or maybe a bonus?

Next, quit being ridiculous about allowing sprint and big red phones on your system. While I can see a little reasoning behind this, if you are gonna sit on your thumbs all day and not get "cool" phones in a timely manner, don't be a ninny about people wanting to activate other phones. I hope congress will turn their brain on like they did with number porting and make these companies accept other phones on their system. At least within the CDMA to CDMA and GSM to GSM.

A DECENT smartphone touch screen phone (because the HTC touch pro2 sucks) would be of great benefit.

And finally, a phone with tons of AFFORDABLE apps. My gosh I can go out to eat at a nice restaurant for what BB wants for most apps. With my iphone, if it wasn't free it was .99. With the drioid it seems to be about the same.

so there are a few of my gripes as to why US Cell is the little dog. Not necessarily huge things, but a lot of little things add up to huge things. If I were in a major metro area where the big boys had decent service I would have no reason to stay with US Cell.

Yeah, this I can understand, I'm in Milwaukee so I've had EVDO for years and I'd be pretty annoyed if I were paying for a data plan that only gave me 1X speeds.

The word is that they're trying to speed up their testing processes, but if you listen to any of their analyst calls, earnings calls, etc, they see themselves as a high-quality service provider, they really do aim for the best customer service, not the best phones.

They ARE trying to run a business you know, if you spend a ton of money to improve your infrastructure and see yourself as a value carrier, offering cheaper plans than most carriers, are you going to let anyone bring their phone to your network? I wouldn't.

Suggestions? The Touch Pro 2 is the best CDMA WinMo phone out there. Android is the only other option here, and it's coming soon, a little late, but they'll be jumping in with both feet.

US Cellular doesn't set the prices on apps. This has nothing to do with US Cellular, nothing at all. You need to remove it from your gripes.

USCC is the little dog....because they're the little dog, keep in mind that they only have 6 million subscribers, compared to something like 80 million for Verizon, it appears that their strategy has worked on you thus far.

ok, but everyone is always jumping on the "US Cell really puts their phones thru the ringer" bandwagon. I have had as many bugs our of their phones as I have any other providers. Their CS isn't all its cracked up to be either. I have had US, Verizon, & ATT. ATT was horrible. US and Verizon were about the same. (that's a whole other story)

All we hear about is how the carriers basically sell phones at their cost then make their money on the overpriced data. If that really is the case, I don't see the big uproar if I want to go drop some coin on a decent phone and activate it.

Ok, I really should have said touch screen only cause thats my main complaint. Personally I think it's nonsense to have a qwerty physical keyboard and virtual keyboard. The TP2 feels like a tv remote or something with it being so thick. And thats what I gripe about.....their a little late with the android just like they are on everything.

yes its true they don't set prices. This could fall under the crap phone category. I think if US offered decent phones besides the BB we could have affordable apps.

cell phones are the necessary evil. In my area, US just happens to have the better service of all the evil companies. I'm not attached at the hip and if another carrier beefs up coverage here or I move, US may not have my biz anymore.

Not trying to argue here. You asked what gripes he was referring to so I thought I would throw in my $.02 also. :-)

Totally agree the smartphone selection leaves something to be desired. I too would love to have a touch screen. I tried the TP2 and didn't care for Wimo. More phones, better phones...that's the ticket.

I was talking to a US Cellular customer service rep the other day about cancelling my contract (I will either switch to at&t or verizon for the nexus one). She pressed me on why I would do that (my mother has been with them since ~1995), and I said I wanted the N1 specifically. She said that US Cellular is currently working on getting some android phones onboard, but that she couldn't say if the N1 was one of them. It would be great to have the N1 on US cellular, but I'm not sure how their 3G is. My impression is that US cellular is popular because its a bit cheaper, and has good customer service. Its just anecdotal evidence, but the phone i have now is buggy, so I would question whether the long testing process is a function of them making everything perfect, or if its because they're just smaller, and have less resources.

I too am considering leaving. I would like the Droid. I think USC would be fine if what you want is a cell phone but if what you want is a smartphone then they just don't have much to offer. I know I've heard they "are working on getting a couple androids" but no one has offered any kind of a time line and it could be a long time yet. The other day I asked a USC rep about the android coming out and he said who knows when that will be as he was rolling his eyes. Even the reps seem to have lost confidence. N1 would be sweet! Come on USC!!!

US Cellular announced they are getting the HTC Desire (very similar to the N1) and a Samsung phone. Both will be Android devices. I think they will be out in June or July.
