Default blackberry style9670 cancelled?

I read a few forums that uscellular cancelled the BLACKBERRY 9670.....Does anyone know why ?! I hate to think they won't be releasing any new BLACKBERRY anytime soon. I know torch is AT&T exclusive but it would be nice for uscellular to release the style or even the updated bold (not tour lookalike).... I know BLACKBERRY has a limited CDMA selection but something gotta give.

Par for the coarse at US Cellular.

Can't blame them much as sales of that unit have been poor..Shocker.

Actually it is a CPU problem, US Cellular felt the phone was to slow and laggy, they asked RIM to make some improvements and RIM was unable to comply so they dropped the phone.

Can't say that I'm upset that they aren't releasing the Style in that I don't understand the point of a Blackberry flip phone, BUT I also understand that some folks might like it and would be disappointed and I also understand why folks would be disappointed that there isn't a new BB coming from US! I switched to the Samsung Mesmerize for about two weeks but went back to my Bold. I, too, wish that US would introduce some new BBs and not another Curve. But I get that maybe they just can't get anything from RIM. I still like US though, I've had great experiences with their store folks and customer service. Onward and upward!!!

Hi, my wife left her Pearl for the Mesmerize. What made you go back to the Bold?

Hi pvdiamon!
Well, first let me say that the Mesmerize is a great device and my wife does love hers and will keep it. I would add that if I had the choice of a Torch or something else I would have gone with that instead but that isn't a slam at the Bold as much as it is a personal desire to have a touch screen!

OK, I use my device extensively for work. E-mail is critical for me as is ease of phone use. Browsing is helpful and a definite need, but probably secondary. I like the "fun" stuff too but not as critical. The e-mail on the Mesmerize is not "push" like on the BB although you can have it checked frequently making it appear to be pretty close to "push." But it always seemed as though I was missing calls and the only thing I can attribute that to is that the device was "busy" checking e-mails while the call was coming in. It happened that way on my Windows mobile devices as well. If I'm mistaken about that I apologize and perhaps someone can correct me but that's just what I surmise. I guess I would have to say that I wasn't as confident about e-mail, particularly when there were messages that didn't seem to make it to certain e-mail accounts on the device. Could have been a comfort thing for me as well but I just didn't have that comfort in the Mesmerize e-mail system. In addition, when setting up a couple of accounts the native e-mail app on the Mesmerize would not work. I had to download a third party app to make it work for this particular account. Again the comfort thing. I also couldn't get comfortable with the keyboards regardless of the configuration and view. Perhaps I should have given that more time. Wasn't the worst though, seemed easy to use and nice touch, I just couldn't get used to it.

With regard to the phone, being able to flip the screen and tap a shortcut was great, but I didn't find voice dialing to be easy at all and that's something I use frequently. Also, to get to the screen with the shortcuts I always had to get the screen back on requiring an extra button hit. I understand why this is necessary because the screen drains the battery but it was just an annoyance. The screen lock was annoying as well so I would have to not only turn it back on but then unlock it. Having said that part I did find an app that prevented the lock but it did not work 100% of the time.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. I keep my calendar on my BB and use PocketInformant. I like it. They have it in beta for the Android and it worked well and looked really great, but I could not tell what would happen when my beta expired or if/when it would be released. I tried some others and they were OK but I definitely prefer PI. Syncing became a problem too, especially if I tried to use Google calendar. Events were duplicating, etc. I just couldn't figure out how to make it work well though I'm sure I could have given time and effort. I just wasn't willing to spend either. Preference again.

On the plus side, I did like the touch screen and the screen itself is very vibrant. Felt good in the hand, larger than my BB but felt OK. A lot of really neat features and, as you know, tons of apps. I would certainly recommend the device and, as I said my wife is keeping hers. Were my work life to change I would very likely go back. I just want to be sure that no one takes what I've said to be a negative review of the Mesmerize, not at all. It was just a personal preference/comfort thing for me based upon my use.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for such an extensive reply! I have been wondering about how Push mail compared. I think you've convinced me to stick with BB for now. I sure would like to see the torch on USCC. I hear a Storm 3 may be coming, but I like a keyboard.

Can't fault uscellular for BLACKBERRY limited options. There's only 3 cdma BLACKBERRY on market (I could be wrong) with USCC having 2 out of 3 devices now that style9670 is cancelled. Of all rumored future BLACKBERRY (bold touch, curve touch, Monaco, Apollo etc.) I believe only one of those is a cdma so I'm sure Verizon has its hands all over it first... But with uscellular lately you never know what they have up there sleeves. In saying that it'll still be some time before USCC will see any new BLACKBERRY that hits the market but I really hope I'm wrong.

Unless they do a full rollout to all carriers (like they did with Curves and Pearl Flip), and nothing on the CDMA roadmap until this summer, it looks like USCC might not get another BlackBerry until the holiday season rolls around.

My wife was really excited about upgrading her 8330 to the Style, but with all the delays (and now the cancellation), we ended up going with the Mesmerize (during their free phone sale). I also switched out my Tour for a Mez.

I see some of the same things as Pryan. The default email app seemed to have problems. I ended up switching to K-9 Mail and haven't had an e-mail problem since. One of the big things I was having problems with on my Tour was truncated emails. I run my own business and truncated emails made it difficult to run my business when out of the office. With the Mesmerize, I get the entire email, which helped sell me on staying with Android.

The touch-screen took a little getting used to. I mainly use Swype now, and after getting used to typing that way, I don't miss the Tour keyboard as much as I thought I would - I don't even miss autotext anymore. I did have to add a few apps (NoLED, Quick Profiles, Bedside, Voice Actions, gTasks, Executive Assistant) to make the transition from BB to Android easier.

I think if USCC had the Torch or Storm, I might have stayed with BlackBerry. For now, I'm happy with the switch to Android, and will re-visit BB once the lineup is refreshed.

From what I read Monaco will be coming out in June/July doesn't really mean that uscellular will have it then. I've seen the leaked video of Monaco and it shows Verizon brand on it so I'm sure they'll release it first so by the time USCC release it (never know if it will even happen) it'll be like a year from now best case holidays.

Unless the Monaco gets canceled due to performance issues aka "style" we will have it. I am not saying it wont get pushed back as that has happened in the past during testing, but as of the internal webinar posted last month the Monaco is currently in testing with USCC. This means testers have it in hand and are using this phone WITH USCC branding and software.
