Not yet, what are your impressions on 7.1?

Did anyone install this yet? Were you able to get Mobile Hotspot set up? What was the login info you used? Is it the same as when setting up the tethering on a computer? Is USCC tracking when you do this or will they only notice if you spike your data usage?

Really hoping this becomes available for my Curve 9350 soon as I'd love to be able to use the Mobile Hotspot (unbeknownst to USCC of course; I'm not paying an extra $15 for as little extra data as I'd use) with the Kindle Fire we're likely getting for Christmas.

Is this something you have to load to the desktop manager and then connect or straight to the phone

If it's an official release from us cellular than desktop manager should notify you about it when you plug the phone in.

I just loaded the second 7.1 leak on my 9350. Wi-fi hotspot worked on both versions. There is no login or password needed. All you do it turn it on, select a password for your device to keep other people from connecting and then the computer should detect it automatically. Enter the same password into the computer and it will connect.

I have no idea if US Cellular is able to track this data usage to see if it's wifi hot spot.

I just updated. On USCC, is there any option for wi-fi phone calls? What about the FM radio reception that is mentioned on RIM website? I had one downside to the upgrade...My Contacts Backup does not work. It just freezes even after deleted and redownloaded. Is it working for anyone with a Torch? Of course you can backup from desktop manager, but still nice for some situations to have the option.

Thanks for reminding me to re-establish the Blackberry Protect backups with the new OS. That is one of the many things you have to do with apps after installing a new OS. I am amazed at how USCC at times doesn't seem to communicate among staff....your tech support person knew there was a problem with My Contacts and OS 7.1, while the one I called had no idea.

If you are moving from a non OS7 than be sure to update your bridge app.
The last Bridge update was for 7.1 for BB phones and contains bug fixes for 7.1.

This version of the OS that USCC released fixes the prior version of 7.1 with the
camera picture display bug.

HotSpot, USCC, if they notice you using it, will contact you. This will be or is covered most likely under their tethering plan as it does establish a seperate connection for the Internet just like tethering. (bridge is not the same as tethering when it comes to billing and speed)

If you havent installed this new OS do it. You will like it.

I also suggest a wipe and full install and using apploader instead of DM.

Has anyone ever known someone or read a first-hand account online of a person contacted or charged by USCC for using Mobile Hotspot or the old cable-based tethering you could do via Desktop Manager?
