Thumbs up *228 - Time for a cell tower update...

NATIONWIDE 3G Data access announced...

Heard this morning that on Friday, there were changes made to allow 3G data access across ALL carriers (USCC 3G = EV). Someone else might be able to explain better, but this means you can get fast data speeds across any cell towers that you might be using. If you went out of area, you would be dropped to 1X because you would be on another carriers tower...now this should give you 1XEV across the nation.

Press *228 and hit SEND/dial to make the update happen.

I did it, saw nothing different on screen, but will monitor it.

It's a PRL update to allow 3G data roaming, yes. It's not with all carriers, just with Verizon.

Now I live in jacksonville NC, did PRL update last week, went from 15088 to 15094. Next month I'm going to upstate NY where the coverage will be varies, do I need to do PRL again while I'm there or I should be good n will still get coverage with my new PRL?

You want to do the PRL while you are connected to USCC's network. If you are roaming, it will try to load that carrier's PRL instead - that could be bad.

Xopher is absolutely right, but you should try to update your PRL again while on USCC's network, you want to be using 15096.

I don't know if its coincidence or not but after I did this update my phone seems to be running better. File free has gone up significantly with no changes to the phone other than this PRL

I noticed if you do *228 it now takes about 70 seconds to do a PRL update. I haven't left the state yet, so I haven't checked the 3G roaming.

I believe USCC did a PRL push because I already had 15096 on my 8530, but I advised my cowerkers to do a PRL update, JIC.

Talking Worked for me

I did the PRL update last week b/f leaving for vacation. I went to the Maryland/DC area this past weekend and had 1XEV the entire time! Works like a charm.

I do this monthly and a good time to do it is when your statement is posting. I say that because it reminds me to do it. Also when traveling it is good. If you are traveling within the state, always good to do this.

I'm bumping this because I moved to St Louis and am disappointed with the lack of 3G coverage. I've read everything from "it's coming soon" to "there will be 4G before you get 3!" I don't really care who is to blame, and I understand USCC's limitations (even though StL is their 2nd biggest market!), but does anyone have any info on a 3G timeline? It's a tad silly that I get excited leave the city just so I can start roaming and see that lovely 1XEV!
