From your device go to 'setup internet email', and it should take you straight to BIS! It should not ask for a username or password...

This may sound like a dumb question, but is logging on to the BIS site for my carrier only so I can establish a blackberry.com email address?
If this is the case and I choose not to set up an email account, do I lose any other functionality with regards to the BB software installed on my phone?
Thanks in advance! - 02-15-2008, 02:50 AM #21
You don't have to do it through BIS. You can also do it through Gmail itself. Open Gmail and go to filters and put in your Gmail address for not to receive mail from then you will be set. By the way, access Gmail from a desktop to do this and not from your Berry!!

You log in to your BIS account for several things. The main reason is to port over any email addresses that you may have so that your Berry will recognize them and set a little envelope on your desktop for that particular email account. Personally, I use 3 different accounts and use my Verizon(VZW)email address for billing purposes and other bills that I may have.
No you will not lose any type of functions if you don't set up an email address. The main reason for your Berry though is for email unless you already have a different account. If you have no email address set up, you are missing out on the main funtion of the Berry. Just something to think about.
