Default How Does RIM Number the Devices?

Here is a quick run down on how the device numbering works. Obviously with new models/new capabilities coming, this will have to be updated. "When there is a conflict in descriptions, the first two numbers' description trumps the last two. For instance the 8820, No camera trumps video recording.

81xx - Suretype, Non Flip, Camera
82xx - Suretype, Flip, Camera
83xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, Camera
85xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, Camera, Expanded Internal Memory
88xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, No Camera, GPS, GSM
89xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory
90xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, GPS, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory, 3G, WiFi, Video Recording
95xx - Touch Screen, Non Flip, GPS, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory, Video Recording, GSM, 3G
96xx - QWERTY, Non Flip, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory, GSM, 3G

And now the last 2 digits
xx00 - Base Model, No modifications
xx10 - GPS, GSM, Video recording
xx20 - WiFi, GSM, Video Recording
xx30 - CDMA, EVDO, Video Recording, GPS
xx50 - CDMA, EVDO, Video Recording, WiFi, GPS

So For Example:
9630 - QWERTY, Non Flip, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory and CDMA, EVDO, Video Recording

9500 - Touch Screen, Non Flip, Camera, High Res Screen, Expanded Internal Memory Video Recording and Base Model, No modifications

Also, RIM is beginning to offer devices of the same model number that are sans Camera. The camera module has just been removed and the backplate has been altered slightly. The device is still the same. That is it for now. As more come out I will update this. (or a mod will if so inclined) Also, All camera devices (sans the 8100) have video recording capabilities.

I don't understand the difference between the 90xx and the 96xx. The only diff is 3G, but the 9630 is 3G..??

I was about to say that I need to be hoping for a 9650 as my next phone after the 9630, but maybe it should be a 9050....

Also, Radio has his phone listed as a 9030 which would indicate that it is some kind of a Bold/Onyx for Verizon.........but the xx30 indicates no wifi.........??

So as I read somewhere, the Odin/aka Storm 2, will be the 9550, and the upcoming Tour/w wifi will be called the 9650. Interesting. Now all we need is more leaked info on specs for the Storm 2/Odin/9550.

I guess that means I'm going to buy another BB next year when something better than the Tour comes out. Good thing I have all those lines that are eligible to upgrade.

Doesn't the XX50 also stand for push to talk? Such as the 8350i. Or is it the i that makes it the push to talk?

I thnk i refers to iDEN which is what Nextel uses for their PTT.

The 'i' refers to the iDEN PTT. Other devices have PTT, but none have the iDEN branding.

Not all xx30 devices do. I should include it in the 95/96 Series however. Updated

Why does the 90xx list 3G, but not the 96xx?
