Who wants a laugh? (at my expense) :)
About a month ago I resurrected my wife’s two month old Bold 9700 that had an unfortunate pontoon boat trip accident. I am sure you can "fathom" what happened. Being an impaitent sort, she had purchased a replacement phone, so I found myself a proud owner of a free (for me) Bold. YAY!
Within 12 hours of the "It's alive...ALIVE!" moment, I wanted to learn anything and everything about development. I quickly found myself here and at the BlackBerry Development site. Having minimal coding experience I started with Theme Builder and downloaded version 5.0. I found it very easy to use and quite intuitive! I made myself a couple of simple themes from some of my digital art and thought to myself "JimBob, you are the MAN!"
Then I made a trip here, to this very forum, and found themes that blew me away! I thought to myself "JimBob, you are NOT the man!"
I saw references to the fantastical device called "Composer" Ooohs and ahhs made their way from my brain to my mouth as I saw the mystical conjuring of Composer. "I must learn the secrets to this wonderful concoction," I thought. So off I went on my quest to find out more.
I started with the Intrawebs. A simple search for "Composer" should point me in the right direction, I figured. With great anticipation I downloaded Mozilla Composer, the most obvious choice of 10,456 matches. I found and saved a plethora of documentation, tutorials, and reference material for future use. I was on my way to being a learned man!
But wait, whats this? The composer I opened does not appear to be the same? "Who is this imposter before me," I thought, "Which path did I mistakenly take in my quest?" Back I came to this forum, head hung low in defeat, seeking the guidance to go on. And lo and behold I find references to BlackBerry Composer. "Eureka!" I yelped. All I need to do is go back to the BlackBerry Development site and download it there.
Typing the secret incantation in the SEARCH box, I knew I would find what I was looking for. I was a mere few steps away from my goal. The excitement was overwhelming! Either that or the three cups of coffee were beginning to show their effects. Soon I had found all the documentation that could fit into the Library of Alexandria for Composer. I was hot on the trail, all I needed now the link for the download! I searched, and searched and for a fortnight (actually 120 minutes) but the object of my desire was eluding me.
Suddenly, it hit me as hard as a flea running into cotton ball. "I have you now Composer! Whua ha ha haa!" I chuckled in triumph. I sent my crusader, who I refer to as Mouse Pointer, to the deadly swamps of "The Start Menu". Using a primitive form of telekinesis, I navigated my Mouse Pointer though the treacherous minefield of Pictures, Recent Items, and the most deadly of distractions, Games, to the enlightened pathway of All Programs.
With the first wave off attackers successfully vanquished I found myself at what could be the only remaining lair for "Composer". My Mouse Pointer, being a valiant crusader lead the way ahead of me rapping his hand once upon the door labeled "BlackBerry Theme Studio 5.0. I waited with bated breath, expecting the hordes of Hades to be unleashed upon me! Quietly, I thanked myself for taking care of the coffee incident earlier in my quest, least the shock and awe of my discovery leave me in a rather embarrassing predicament. I was bombarded with what can only be the voices of angels (or the sounds of a hard drive running, but I prefer to think of it as angels). There, laying as contently as a sleeping cat after a meal of l-tryptophan laced turkey diner, was the precious Composer. Quietly I aroused him from his slumber and as sure as a 20 sided die is used for a saving roll, THIS Composer was the one I was looking for. And soon thereafter a feast was held by the peasants in celebration of the glory to come. My journey had come to a victorious end. I returned triumphant and elated.
The moral to the story of course, is that sometimes, that which you seek is really on the inside already........ in a folder..... in your start menu.
