Default Thought and Time

I read a post the other day from a developer that said

" I make a theme every day" to which my reply was,

"wow" it takes me a good two weeks to get it even close to where i want it.

My question to you fellow dev,s is this

Am i slow ? I have always had an ability to catch onto coding quite quick, but this fellow makes me wonder.

It takes me prolly 2 days (after the idea) to build the svg in composer, then strip all the junk out and add my custom stuff.

I spend many an hour getting all hot and bothered with gimp.

It then takes me at least a week to get all the svg images place just where i want them.

i then take at least 2 or 3 days of testing with beta testers, sometimes much longer.

How long does it take you dudes and dudettes to make a theme ?

i know people that put out themes that fast, but the question is what is the theme? i mean is it for example a layout they already have for which they are simply changing the icons/wallpapers? or is it fully custom from scratch?

what i would say, is using adobe stuff always gives you the co-ords for images, so i normally prototype the homescreen in fireworks (guessing photoshop would work too) then simply take the positions from there, also as im prototyping it im making the assets for the homescreen, so kinda two birds with one stone in that sense.

About a week if I'm motivated. There's definitely some people who just spam app world with themes that are the same as their last one except for a couple color/wallpaper differences. I guess they figure the more themes they have up the more money...regardless of whether its new and creative or not.

It usually takes me about a week per model.

the quality of the theme is reflected in the time and thought put into it.

If you just throw it together so you can spam up the forums with your tripe...then have your "fans" come and say how amazing it looks...you're not really fooling anybody.

That is what I am talking about.

I am going to buy one of those 700 themes just to see how much thought went into it.

I think it really depends on what you're trying to do and how well you know the code.

For instance, i could make a hidden dock in a matter of minutes but the first time i tried it took me nearly a week to figure out after reading threads and testing. I'm currently trying a large clock font for the first time and having serious difficulties with the font editor and the extraction method for gaining the code, it took me days to figure out. Needless to say i do not have a programmers background but i can make up for it in PS skill.

That being said, on average if i'm totally committed, it would take me inside a week for a prototype and another few days to support other devices. Again, all depends on what you know and how fast your idea comes together.

Yes, Yes.....

I know it depends on knowledge of the code.

There is very few things i can not do with an svg.

I just could not put out a theme or 2 every day...No matter how well I know the code.

My man speaks the TRUTH!

Time=build quality.

Its all about the quality...not the quantity.

while true for SVG based themes, if you were simply adding icons in TB, its not going to take alot of time at all.

it really does depend on the theme tbh

Right you are. If all the icons are named correctly a simple click of the mouse will swap them all.

i know who this is about... he spends 18-20 hrs straight on a theme.. most are not as complex as the themes others make, but the ideas are quite good.

It takes me anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.. depends on the complexity and how much time i have not doing my regular job.

That's not even the point here...I will admit some of the stuff looks interesting...don't have a torch so i can't say for certain....but, its the seemingly endless stream of b.s. that comes with it....thanks for the hundreds of downloads....thanks for the huge business....I mean come on already....

If your stuff is good....the community will let me know...I don't need to sift through pages and pages of him patting himself on the back to get to any new content do I?

I always screw up the maps icon names.

I dunno .

It really is not about any certain person ( although it WAS "said" individual that made me think of this thread)

Seems 18 hrs is a fair amount of time , especially all at once.
