SMS shortcut keys under OS6

So, I spent a fair amount of time today bashing my head against the proverbial brick wall trying to get an SMS shortcut key to work in a theme running in a 9650 simulator on 6.0.0.431. Even the code generated through composer 6.0 does not bear fruit:

Has anyone gotten a shortcut to SMS to work with a 6.0 theme? This particular shortcut just doesn't seem to work either with universal search on or off.
