Default How do you make transparent/opaque menus?

I've noticed in some of your guys' amazing themes that the menus are black and slightly opaque, and I was wondering if someone could help me learn how to do that..

For example, the Lush theme which I adore has slightly transparent menus.

Also the rounded corners? How might I go about doing this also?
I'm very new to theme building, as you can see... :]
Thank you, any help is much appreciated!

The buttons in my Zen Tesla theme all have rounded corners. I start with a really large image (more that ten times as large) and round by hand. I feel that Joe Pro Graphics Artist has some tools that can do a better job, but I haven't found them yet.

Will do, for sure.
Also, if I may ask, how do you change the overall background of the menu list? From it's default white color? I've changed the list stripe color, but is there a way to change the background also?

Ah, sorry to be pushing out so many questions.. Last one, I promise!
But, when things are tried out in the Simulator, is that EXACTLY what they'll look like on the real thing? Because I was fixing the way a button looks, and it looks fine in the sample thing in the Theme Builder, but when I used the Simulator, there's a random black line under the text of the button.. Which one's right? Haha
