Grainy /jagged icons

I need a little help. I am making some icons and images for a theme i am working on and i am having an issue where when i export for web and devices from Photoshop as png 24, and then select them from within composer, they look fine in theme builder. When i view them on the simulator or actually load them on my phone, they lock very grainy or have jagged outer edges. The icons are either 73 px or 80 px and are 72 dpi. It doesn't seem to matter. What in the world am i doing wrong here?
Thanks in advance for any help. I have used PS for many years and this is something I just cant seem to figure out.

what size are you making the icons? For instance, with the 9000 series, the icons are 80x80. If my icon that I wanted to use was any smaller than that, say 60 x60, then when you bring the icon into theme builder it will want to set the icon size to the default 80x80, thus 'stretching' the 60x60 image to fill the 80x80 space.

So what i often do is create an 80x80 transparent icon, then cut and past the 60x60 icon onto the 80x80 transparent icon, then save it. this way the 60x60 icon is set into the 80x80 and thus when imported into TB, the icon size will be 80x80, but the image of your icon will stay at the 60x60 size.

You could also open the image and increase the canvas area. Just make sure to have the canvas increase center the image.

Does composer expect the same sizes as theme builder? Thanks so much for the help.
