Default Disable Universal search from homescreen

Is there a way I can disable universal search from the home screen via composer or theme builder?

I have created a couple shortcut keys in my svg code to show/hide a today item and when pressing these buttons the today does show/hide however it launches universal search first!!!!

I created an icon on the home screen for Universal Search so it wont be missed but this is really a downfall at the moment!?

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Edit:

The key I am using is '$'.
I assigned additional shortcuts to C,B,M and this does not produce the same results. Instead those shortcuts to execute the desired application without going to universal search.

I am going to assign the '$' shortcut to another key for the time being. however if anyone knows how to disable universal search from the home screen PLEASE PLEASE let me know!

You can disable it through your settings on your phone. Options > Display > Home Screen Preferences > Set "Launch by Typing" preference from "Universal Search" to "Application Shortcuts"

That should work. Cuz otherwise I don't believe you can disable it through the theme builder.

I am aware of that but is there a way I can pre disable it in themebuilder or composer so when exported the theme is already set to that option? I would rather not have the user have to go through that....

I'm afraid not. But don't worry it's completely normal. I see theme builders do it all the time, give the user a small instruction to make the theme perform the way it should =)
